Delivery of my new Land Rover Discovery after some delays and trauma as I looked after Sam.
Daniel and his friends arrived to commission the dinghy and stay overnight in Heronshaw so I set to and re-commissioned the plumbing; finding five leaks in the process that were caused by last winter’s frosts.
I was amongst the last to wake again this morning as Diana was up first to make me a cup of tea and let Debbie into the bathroom. Sam woke up early with the family activity and messed his run for the first time this week but, judging by the mixture of polythene bag and wood chippings, it may have been overnight after all. A walk down to the village with him for a newspaper and two bottles of milk and then made slower progress after breakfast as I got together the old Range Rover bits and pieces and had to officiate with a number of fights between my daughters.

The Escort to Halfords and then on to Mann Egerton where, to our disappointment at first, they had not yet received the winch and insurance cover note for our new Discovery. Into the city centre for our coffee and scone at Jarrold’s and then to finish some other chores after which I checked again with Nicholas Dicks and was pleased to hear that he had both items to hand and could proceed today. More disappointing news from Halfords who had to send out for the official rear seat belts but both ended up getting the vehicles ready for the end of the day. I was pleased to drive home in the Discovery with the alarm system and automatic transmission being features of the new car.
This afternoon, we had returned to Harnser to find Daniel and three friends in place trying to commission his speed boat. We spent some time cleaning out and then rigging the small sailing dinghy from under Heronshaw and found it to be in good condition and worthy of being put to good use with Debbie's water training this summer. Daniel was thrashing around for much of the time, trying to start his 20hp Mariner outboard engine and then foolishly used loose battery connections and ignited the excess petrol with a spark. All hell broke loose as we rushed round and helped him extinguish the flames with buckets of water. In the end they set off in the inflatable for The Swan.
As they were planning to spend the night in Heronshaw, I set to and re-commissioned the plumbing; finding five leaks in the process that were caused by last winters frosts. Up late this evening, reading the Discovery handbook and then updating this day's eventful journal before turning into bed after midnight. relieved to see the lights on in Heronshaw, indicative of the boys' safe return back.
