Budget Statement by Chancellor Norman Lamont
Budget Statement by Chancellor Norman Lamont

Viewing properties for investment with Mary Bloom on Budget Day which revealed the Stamp Duty threshold being raised to £60,000 saving us around £400 on each houses bought. A lot of extra tax on car fuel, VAT on household fuels and more for the NHI.

Also helping Sandie Giles with her election plans and literature at the same time, editing her text, helping the girls with their homework and then updating this last two days' journal.

I tough time with Sam today. Perhaps I was less patient with him and he was also under the weather and having more problems with the reduced mealtimes, but he ran off once and was quite difficult for the rest of the time. The weather took a turn for the worse; dull with a cold wind again, and my cold was getting very uncomfortable and on my chest. Since having much exposure to secondary cigarette smoke in my business years, I always seem to have breathing difficulties when I have a cold and I hate this as it makes communication difficult and uncomfortable. I finished off some correspondence this morning and then drove into St Neots to get a haircut and deliver my letters by hand where I could. I also ordered $2000 in $10's and $20's for our holiday next week.

Took home some fish and chips from town and, after eating them and taking Sam for a walk, had to rush to be ready for Mary Bloom. She was helping me find the children's trust investment properties and had shortlisted a few and arranged viewings for this afternoon. It was a long and exhausting process, but we saw a few that might be worth making offers for. I took us to Sandie Giles for a tea break in the middle and helped her with her election plans and literature at the same time. Back for tea and to hear the end of the Chancellor's Budget Statement. A lot of extra tax on car fuel, VAT on household fuels and more on NHI was balanced by some reliefs but offset by allowances being frozen instead of being increased in line with inflation. At least the Stamp Duty threshold was raised to £60,000 for house purchases which saves us around £400 on each of the houses we are going to buy. The evening editing Sandie's text, helping the girls with their homework and then updating this last two days' journal.
