Caithness to Cambridgeshire via Edinburgh with my trophy head in the pouring rain and snow to find widespread flooding in Norfolk with Wroxham unpassable and half of the Horning riverfront properties flooded but not Harnser. Tired to bed
Up at 4.00am for the long journey home by car. We had a slight delay trying to pack up all of our stuff and stow it into the car and its roof box and the pouring rain and wind did not exactly help us. The rain soon turned to snow flurries and then a serious snow fall started and soon covered the road. It was difficult seeing through a blizzard in the dark as full beam headlights were of no use.

We still went for our detour via Lairg to collect Nigel's sika trophy and it ended up looking quite small against the frozen red deer stag head we collected from Highland Venison. We had to tie this to the roof rack as we simply could not get it into the car. The journey onwards until able to drop off the head at the taxidermists in Edinburgh. We were well pleased with the standard of his work and look forward to the final result in the new year. We arrived home in early evening, too late for Nigel to pay off his staff but we did well with the four-wheeled drive car in all that snow in the morning when it would have been difficult to stay on the road in a conventional vehicle.
Jim's father had been alerted by our car phone and was already there with his car. The evening returning a host of telephone messages. There had been serious flooding in Norfolk with Wroxham unpassable and half of the Horning riverfront properties flooded. Harnser escaped by all accounts but the water was all over the grounds and under the building and it was only my care in raising the property as high as I dare that saved us from flooding. Paxton fared better with just the riverside gardens under water which is nothing unusual. Very tired to bed after the long journey and all of the early mornings and late nights.
