Wiggly missed out on her seafood meal in Potter Heigham

From Horning to Wiggly’s place in St Neots after watching Norwich City beat Leeds and then shooting rabbits with Jim on the way.

An emotional day for Wiggly missing her meals and struggling with arrangements to return home by train for the show she had arranged to see in Fulbourne.

Awoke to the sound of some shooters banging away at wildfowl on the marsh and rather envied them their sport at first until I recognised that I was better off in a warm bed on such a cold morning.

The weather had settled into a pattern of warm and sunny days and cold, still and misty nights as an anticyclone was centred over the country. I insisted that Wiggly made the tea and then made love to her and left her in bed as I took Sam to the village for a bottle of milk and newspaper.

Rather a quiet morning reading the paper and relaxing after my exertions whilst Wiggly washed and replaced the dirty sheet until it was time to go. Some shopping in Wroxham where I also withdrew more money and got some keys cut. The main items we needed were a king-size duvet, under sheet and duvet/pillow covers for future Norfolk sorties.

Then a drive along to Latham’s of Potter Heigham for a snack and a look around. I thoughtlessly let Wiggly down by first offering her a plate of seafood and then eating it all up whilst engrossed in conversation with the kiosk owner! A small panic as I had forgotten to collect my new cut keys from Roy’s and then along to Carrow Road for the match with Leeds.

It was an exciting match which Norwich just won on a fine afternoon but it was disappointing to again find that refreshments were not available to non-members of the supporters club. This was quite a problem for Wiggly, who was looking forward to a meat pie and had missed the seafood earlier!

We left the match twenty minutes early as she thought that her train was then but she had been misled and she had a tantrum accordingly. I could not really see her problem, because the 5.20pm train would have arrived at Cambridge Station at 6.45pm, in good time for a taxi ride to the show she had arranged to see in Fulbourne.

However, she was hung up on her arrangements with the rest of the party and, as she cried and sulked, I was being delayed to get caught by the post-match traffic. Coming after unnecessarily missing the climax of the match, I felt the aggrieved party but could not say anything and just got her on the train without further fuss.

The journey on to Jim and July Bird for tea and some shooting. I had bought another small gift for them; this time an Aladdin Activity Set. This was just some cheap pens and notebooks but their child Laura was delighted with them and set about her colouring straight away.

We walked and fed our dogs at first and then, after another nice tea, set off in Jim’s car in search of rabbits. It was our most successful night yet as we shot above a dozen. I missed very few and even Jim weighed in with a couple before we both gave up quite early from fatigue.

I accepted his offer of a cup of tea after and it was after 11.30pm that I left for home. The journey to St Neots took around an hour and a half and, upon arrival, I let myself into Wiggly's house and unloaded the luggage before settling down in her bed to sleep; not expecting her back for some time.
