Valentines Day and my showdown with Diana,
Valentines Day and my showdown with Diana,

Valentines Day and my showdown with Diana, where I frankly set out my position and financial reassurances but then an exchange of Cards.

My day working on the St Ives Report & then Debbie's Kimbolton parents' evening

The normal morning routine with Di bringing me a cup of tea so that I could listen to the morning radio news in bed.

The government move at last to change the secretive and unaccountable appointments to local Health non-executives officers after criticism.

The House of Commons passed the Liberal Democrat motion (by 47 to 3, 10 more than a quorum) calling for a referendum before further constitutional changes are made for European unity.

Both the government and opposition ignored the debate and vote and say that they will not be bound by it but there were additional votes for the motion coming from their parties.

A reasonable night after a big showdown late yesterday when Diana loitered outside my door and overheard me telephoning Wiggly. She demanded a showdown, and we went through to the lounge and spent the next couple of hours talking.

I did not directly admit to my on-going affair as she avoided asking the direct question but Di got the message that I would not leave her whilst the children were still our responsibility but that I would still have affairs from time to time because there were obviously things that I needed that Diana could not provide.

I was surprised that she still harboured deep-seated grudges from my past affair with Irene and worries that I would leave her and the kids at short notice. She says that I left them (only for a week) with Irene, staying at The Bedford Moat house last time.

She said that I had "duped" her into parting with her Comart shares and that she could not trust me - even to manage our finances fairly for her which was a great hurtful thing to say as I fell that I am always fair in all things.

Today went quite normally despite this overnight upset. Di gave me a Valentine first thing and I went and got her one later and she had arranged for Valentines and cream eggs for all three children as well!

The school bus stop and dog run and, with Diana going to Cambridge, I settled down to spend the day working on the St Ives LibDem enquiry and got Percy over in the afternoon to bring further documents from the Constituency minutes to add to those I obtained from branch files.

This process was interrupted by firstly a Valentines Day rendezvous with Wiggly for lunch. I stopped off on the way and bought her a card and was there early to greet her but found her in a serious, even grim mood.

She had been discussing a secondment from her present job to work in London and has her work cut out getting her Eynesbury FOCUS delivered as well.

She had to get back to draft a proposal and could not stay long. I got her to unwind a little in the end  but she was getting emotional and I think that either it is her pre-menstrual tension or she is clinging on to her composure after our difficult weekend and curtailed phone call last night.

I did not tell her of my talk with Di as she had enough to worry about already. I got Debbie to walk Sam later and then we spent the evening going to her parents night at Kimbolton School.

Despite her grades, they are hopeful that she will end up passing everything with B's and C's in the summer which still leaves her best choices of "A"-levels a quandary.
