A visit to the London 606 Jazz Club

The weekend away with Wiggly in London for the London Boat Show and a 606 Club Jazz Club visit, making love before and afterwards to our mutual satisfaction

We lay in rather too long and I had to take particular care of Wiggly in bed this morning after leaving her frustrated last night.

A long routine and then, after breakfast, we loaded up my Land Rover and set off for London, stopping at South Mimms for a drink on the way.

Our first stop in the city was on the Edgeware Road where I wanted to buy the fine leather jacket I had been looking at before Christmas.

This proved elusive as this shop's stock was sold out but they got a jacket over from another London branch whilst we waited and shopped locally and I bought that.

We were pleased with the garment, though it was Extra,Extra Large as well as being Extra Tall and fitted off of my shoulders. With this being a fashionable way of wearing jackets these days, it was still acceptable.

On into West London where we went next directly to The London International Boat Show at Earls Court. This was the first time for Wiggly there and she was very good and did not fret as I took time looking around.

I found out that none of the new electronic charting and navigational developments were yet better than what I was already using. Some fun looking around smart cruisers before we left to find a hotel.

After checking out the address of the 606 Jazz Club in Fulham, we had difficulty finding a hotel anywhere near until using my mobile telephone to book into The Swallow International Hotel at special Boat Show rates.

We found the reception poor and they only had a twin-bedded room but we still enjoyed staying there. A rest and then, after changing into our glad rags. out by taxi to the club.

The atmosphere of this basement club was very good with bands playing seven days a week to a full and enthusiastic audience.

The food was excellent but the band, a tenor-saxophone-led quartet described as playing "contemporary" jazz, were rather strident and discordant to listen to.

Even so we had fun and left for the hotel after midnight, paying the bill of around £80.

Awake until near 1.00am, making love to satisfy us both before we got into our separate twin beds and slept well for the night.
