To moor at Thurne Dyke for the night
To moor at Thurne Dyke for the night

Setting off on The Paxton Princess, stopping at Malthouse Broad to walk Sam and then on to moor at Thurne Dyke for the night.

The news was of John Major offering himself for re-election as Tory leader

Another sound night's sleep in the peace and tranquillity of Harnser boat dock and it was even later than the day before we got up and around.

Sam appreciated the walk and then we completed the rest of our preparations and set off in the boat.

The weather was still cool, windy and damp but it was either now or never to go otherwise we might not have got off at all.

The first cruise downstream the river Bure until we turned off up the dyke and moored in the middle of Malthouse Broad and came ashore with Sam in the Jolley.

To the pub where we enjoyed a nice meal of roast pork and pints of shandy in the garden with Sam curled up under the bench and not causing too many problems for us.

A walk along the road to settle him and then back via the Jolley to cruise on downstream. For once, I turned up the Thurne and pulled into Thurne Dyke and decided to stay the night there.

Another walk for Sam around this small settlement where we bought a half dozen free range eggs.

Then, after changing and washing, we walked back from the boat to the pub and had a nice meal of their special pies; steak and kidney for Wiggly and Lamb in wine pie for me.

Back to the boat quite late and to bed after finding nothing on the TV. I used my computer for a while to update some of my last few days journal and then we flopped into bed feeling very tired.

The news was of John Major offering himself for re-election as Tory leader and of speculation as to who would be prepared to stand against him as the stalking horse.
