On this day, I was querying the price increases from our bacon supplier. Many years later, they seemed to need the revenue as their business was closed and the factory derelict.

I was remonstrating with Harris of Elmswell as follows, 'Dear Patrick Harrington. I understand from my store manager that you wish to increase your price to us for smoked back bacon from £4.02 per kg to £4.18, an increase of 4%.
I had understood that we had agreed this price only quite recently and was not expecting it to be reviewed so soon. I realise that pork prices may have gone up generally, but I think you will agree that we have been able to purchase greater quantities from you at these previous prices, and I would not like the inevitable price increases which we will have to pass on to reduce our business with you in this competitive market place.
Please reconsider this intended price increase and notify me with your considered opinion.
The Fifteenth Amendment to the Irish Constitution is signed into law, officially removing the constitutional prohibition on divorce. This landmark legislation follows a national referendum the previous year and represents a significant social and legal transformation in Irish society.
