More than 40 years, told day by day

After enjoying Fisherman's Wharf and reviewing places to stay, we came across the nice Ocean Park Hotel, supposedly the oldest motel in San Francisco, before driving out to Muir Woods and having a scare over losing the girls
I awoke first and updated yesterday's journal as Diana made the coffee and used the bathroom first.

The drive from San Diego to an expensive Travelodge, Fisherman's Wharf, in San Francisco walking with Di along Fisherman's Wharf which was very busy with tourists. I was pining for Wiggly
This motel was comfortable for the night, and we slept well. Both rooms had just been renovated with new carpets and furnishings and it seemed that we were the first guests to occupy them, which was nice.

After a warm night, sleeping naked, my thoughts were elsewhere and went to see Di in the next bed before I could go to sleep. After breakfast at Cocos the San Diego Zoo was judged the biggest and the best in the world with buses, trolley cars and a sky lift to show you around. Then North to spend the night in Motel 6 Carpinteria
It was a particularly warm night and in order to sleep, I tried removing my pyjama top like last night but I was still too warm and so had to remove my pyjama bottoms and slept naked to get comfortable.

We found gloriously hot weather in California after snow, ice and rain at home during a month.
I was distracted from finance and investment, but I agreed to the design for the Heronshaw replacement, and a £3,500 alteration to Harnser as I started working with my Psion.
Also not a lot of time for training Sam and he was sent to kennels for our time away. I watched Norwich City play draw an exciting match with Manchester City and triumphed in the Premier League 3-0 against local rivals Ipswich Town.
Also saw England beat Scotland to take the Calcutta Cup, the Grand Slam and the Five Nations Championship all in one go.
It was a busy month for me as the local organiser for the Liberal Democrats getting colleagues elected to key posts and helping my fellow St Ives LibDem in crisis.
Much of my private time was spent seeing Wiggly as our relationship deepened but I tried to see Diana as well.
The family holiday to California took up the rest of the month; with time first in San Francisco, then Anaheim at favourite venues such as Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, Disneyland in the north and then the ships and Sea World Park in Dan Diego.
I opted not to go on a possible day trip from San Diego to Mexico in favour of a more relaxing Pacific Beach outing in the sun.
Back home, John Major had major problems on his hands over the European Common's vote and Tony Blair was hosting a breakfast at The Dorchester with many top businessmen to compete for support.
This as the pound sterling hit new lows and interest rate rises seem to be on the cards. More than 80% of local authorities have cut back in their provision of Social Services following government grant cuts.
Better news as Toyota, in Derby, has announced plans to build another factory complex next door to its existing site for the Corolla car model.
Elsewhere, John Major met the Arab leader Yassa Arafat, and the US President Clinton welcomed the Sein Fein leader, Gerry Adams, for a St Patrick's Day reception.
The Canadian Navy has seized a Spanish trawler and found that most of the 350 tons of turbot on board were undersized.
After I left for California later in the month, we experienced gloriously hot and sunny days continuously, but we left behind a month at home that has seen snow falling hard and settling such that the ground was blanketed with snow and ice.

After the night thinking of my early life in Tottenham, then catching up with messages after which the day trip from San Diego to Mexico was abandoned in favour of Pacific Beach outing in the sun. Then to bed, missing Wiggly
I was awake early; probably because I had gone to bed very early and it was some time before Diana and the girls woke up and we could get going.

Another hot and sunny day queuing at the Sea World Park in San Diego. The common theme was the sea and its creatures, including sharks, penguins, otters and all types of mammals.
They had dolphins by the dozen, and groups of pilot and killer whales all performing as they do not believe in doing things by halves!
This was a day at Sea World, San Diego, and another hot and sunny one; the hottest one we had so far.
