Tending Ducks and Ducklings with Daniel between watching cricket and varnishing The Lady before an evening’s cinema with Di and Dan

Another very hot and sunny day. We collect 8 eggs from the duck house this morning but I reckon that 2 were there from yesterday when we only had four. The ducklings are about 8 weeks old now and I calculate they will start laying in about 4 weeks’ time. When they do their eggs will at first be small and quite distinguishable from the others. Daniel and I clip the ducks right hand wings some 2 inches as we let them out one by one this morning. It is important to clip them before they all get too big and start flying. They are none the worst for this experience and soon settle to a meal of bread from Debby.

This morning working on The Lady between sessions watching the second cricket test match between England and New Zealand at Headingly. The rear cabin surface is clad with beading and coving and tomorrow I can complete the fitting and start varnishing. Mid-afternoon to Diana’s parents to leave Debby and then on with Daniel to watch the 6th Star Wars film – Return of the Jedi which was most interesting.

Home to news of increasing collapse of the England cricket performance and the late evening priming some varnish work. The ducks are safely stowed away with no after-effects.

Today the political news is still about the government tactics of not announcing plans direct to parliament. Now that the house is in recess, Thatcher mentions that a long term review of the social services will take place. Critics fear that the cutbacks foreseen during the election campaign and denied are to come to pass. A less than happy 7 weeks of this parliamentary session for the new government.
