Comart Board Meeting and AGM adjourned after strategic marketing discussions raise issues about IBM penetration and then a fairly successful Xmas dinner/dance for 140 of my staff
The day for the Comart Board Meeting and AGMs. All statutory documents agreed and accounts signed but a good deal of difficulty in discussions on the quality of the sales forecasts and our marketing philosophy. A protracted argument on which market sectors we are selling to and, as a consequence, what future product specifications should be. In the end I cancelled the afternoon session, allowed a late lunch and adjourned the meeting until tomorrow.

Remedial action with the Finance Director and work on DTI finance and possible Pension Fund property investment as Charles and Diana visit the Harrods shopper victims amongst public revulsion at the bomb outrage
On time to the office and first to meet with Derek W to review the plans for the day and the reasons for my summoning him back from a Southampton visit. Plenty of problems with Scrap Stock procedures, Annual Returns, Factory Finance, apart from the normal payroll and other month end Monday priorities. Then to brief June on the jobs of preparing the Profit Sharing Warrants and Annual Returns for Xitan and the two Comart’s.

Slight lay in and fine breakfast after some management and current affairs reading, some family discipline and then to the office for distribution of AGM returns and reports all on a milder day which turns to rain later. Man hunts in the Republic and talks here on banning the Provisional Sinn Fein
A good lay in and only to wake at 8.15am. Then to breakfast of fried egg, bacon and bread before two hours more in bed whilst reading the Sunday Times and also catching up on magazine reading. They feature the new management styles and licensing of technology. Out to clean out the ducks and to wash the car but not before having a royal argument with Daniel over not obeying instructions and being continually argumentative.

More restful time on a damp but clearing family day as the children behave better and we go shopping in Cambridge but sadness as the Provisional IRA Harrods car bomb kills seven people and injures scores of others
A long and restful morning in bed catching up with reading of the newspapers and trade journals generally. Not to rise until just before 12.00 noon and then everyone much amused as I duff over Daniel for his toothbrush being dry until I realise that he had, in fact, cleaned his teeth many hours earlier! Up quickly and off with the family by car to The Happy Eater for lunch. Father Christmas visited the tables and presented Debbie with a yoyo and Daniel with a puzzle.
