Christmas Eve relaxing, reading and attending to the ducks and family matters before Diana’s family visit for tea and Father Christmas gets a helping hand
Up at my normal Saturday time and via my normal routine of toast and marmalade breakfast and read of the paper and Economist. Dressed and washed and after to let out and feed the ducks with Daniel. For some days he has been complaining that only the younger ducks are coming in each evening and that the big ones have flown off. I soon find out that they are in the flock all the time! He was expecting them to be still whitish brown but they have of course moulted fully and are the same colour as the rest!

Steady day working on paperwork and seeking Gordon Coventry’s final decision as staff excesses are curtailed and our DTI grant application is filed. Further funerals of Harrods car bomb victims complete the sobering thoughts and deeds
Only on time to the office and a slow steady day working through the paperwork. I compile a long and detailed letter for Gordon Coventry explaining his position and asking for a final decision. We have all exhausted our patience and are quite unconcerned about the outcome. A sober and steady day at the office – a memo had been circulated about avoiding drink and extended celebrations and it had been heeded. Also today to complete with Derek W and Ian N the application for financial assistance from the DTI.

Depressing ending to a day of Byte Shop meetings as the Coventry’s are resigning again and I conclude that leadership is a lonely and unappreciated role, when profits are shared with no gratitude being voiced
Early to the office to complete preparations for today’s Byte Shop meetings. The formal business complete but little else besides due to the timely arrival of a message from Gordon Coventry that he was resigning (again) from Glasgow because Adrienne could no longer be Company Secretary.

Extremely busy ‘Shortest Day’ as I have my ‘Longest Day’ working on PR and Company Administration Day with Personnel and Payroll Issues for good measure as security hunts follow in England and the Republic for IRA members after the Harrods car Bombing.
There may have been busier days in my career but I doubt it. Early to the office and first to prepare the remaining three Byte Shop AGMs and Annual Returns. Also the Directors meeting minutes and consents to make Diana the Company Secretary of Glasgow. A chance to review the mail and my in tray before joining our publicity people. MEPR, to be briefed by Mike East before the arrival of Roger Woolnough, writer for the Times Newspaper, for an interview. He will be writing a profile of me as a personality and the company’s progress in a January edition which would suit us well for our Which Computer Show publicity.
