A day reading, relaxing, cooking and working with the ducks and The Lady as the NGA dispute drags on and the Syrians shoot down two US planes over the Lebanon
Although family early awake, a good lay in bed reading. Samuel Pepys, 1662, before breakfast; and the Sunday Times afterwards. A good cooked breakfast of fried egg, bread, mushrooms and bacon reminds me that my weight has risen again from 12st 7lb to nearly 13st and I resolve that I will take eating easy until Christmas and then try to get my weight back again. The paper full of press comment and views on the NGA dispute and the way in which the Fleet Street proprietors did not cooperate in the wake of the London industrial action.

Tiredness after a late night forces me to rest and then prioritise family affairs as the UDR are questioned over Irish atrocities as the evening turned very cold and frost
A lay in this morning after the late night but I still spent the day a little tired and irritable. Whilst resting, to read the morning paper and a few others from my briefcase. Breakfast and then to wash and dress quickly so as to let the ducks out after ten. Next to do the months accounts and draw the cheque for an anxious Diana before off to St Neots to collect Daniel from our rendezvous and take him off to our normal Saturday lunch at the Happy Eater.

Preoccupation with Comart Group’s trademarks, company styles and Annual Report and Accounts whilst maintaining a public profile and chairing internal meetings. A badge design for my Achievement of Armsand welcome news of a truce in the printers’ dispute
Early up and to the office to first finish checking my Chairman’s review for the Annual Report and Accounts. After the mornings mail I study the week’s computer journals. John is on the front page of Computing doing an effective hatchet job on the new micro offering from Sperry. I am on page three in a small piece about the Tariff Duty change proposals with Liberal MP Paddy Devlin taking an interest.

To London for Computer industry affairs on a colder day and back for working lunch to St Neots as Daniel started his exams, National Shipyard Strikes are planned but Ford workers settle
Early up and to Stevenage Station by car and there to catch the 8.20am train to Kings Cross. On by tube train to Knightsbridge and a short walk to Mercury House to a 9.30am appointment with Peter McHugh, Managing Director of FTS. A meeting to exchange industry views and allow me to present the background to the BMMG and the public issues we are presently fighting. Also the chance to consider possible scope for company cooperation on export marketing and distribution. Quickly back by tube, train and car in time to meet John and June briefly before lunch. An afternoon in preparation of the group AGM’s and share scheme.
