Hot day for Byte Shop Management action and Comart stock check but fine for evening cruise to St Neots pub
A very fine and very hot day with temperatures rising to the mid 80’s. Early to work after letting out the ducks from the duckhouse. I was relieved to find that they had suffered no ill effects from the liberal coat of creosote. To the office and a phone call to David Slater to call him to the office tomorrow afternoon, today not being convenient because of the Nottingham stock take. Arrangements also to see Bob Robinson on Wednesday, Peter King on Thursday for breakfast, Russ Wilmott on Friday.
This week, therefore, will be concerned with a branch management reorganisation with Peter King, if he accepts it, taking on the role of Byte Shop Supremo. A lunch date with John, David, and the Marketing VP of Wyse Technology over from the States. Time in St Neots for banking and purchase of some picture frames and then back to the office to undertake personnel reviews of June and Derrick Morgan. Today was a stock check and performance seems to have been one of the best ever. This evening a cruise with Diana in The Lady through the Paper Mills lock to St Neots Town Centre. There a drink in “The Bridge” riverside pub, returning as the sun set. It seems a great pity that the old Town Bridge was demolished 15 years ago. From a print which I purchased today, the bridge was fine to match Great Barford and St Ives. A great trouble rounding the ducks up tonight. The older ones would hardly come into the house. I fear that the effects of the creosote are yet to wear off. More news today of personal accidents. Some poor fellow was decapitated by a bailing machine. No attempt this time, however, to put his head on again!
