Very hot day of personal priorities, Byte Shop Nottingham concerns and bank discussions
Another fine and very hot day. Conditions in the factory were close to tolerance level because, of course, we have no air conditioning of any sort. Proposals are to hand for our new building – a customer services building – but these are a year away to completion and the Sales Director, for one, does not think we can manage in the meantime.
A morning appointment with the dentist and there is bad news that I have to receive two fillings on the 20th. Then a visit to Hepworth’s, my tailor, who are closed and a catapult purchased from the toy/sports shop to provide a means of fending off unwanted stray ducks who are troubling the flock. Back to the office for a meeting with David and John to sort out many items of joint Marketing/Sales concern. In the afternoon the visit of David Slater of Nottingham for an ‘exit interview’. His grievance is the lack of short-term reward for the hard struggle to turn Nottingham round combined with the lack of help, training and support to aid the process. I am hopeful of retaining him and resolved to try. Late afternoon and early evening, a complete shakeout of my office filing systems, relegating many items to either the shredder or the archive. In particular BMMG and Branch files are brief enough to transport in reasonable combination – a necessity for my trip of the next two days, which involves a variety of meetings. This day Derek Weatherby entertained the bank manager and assistant manager and overwhelmed them with our preparation of the budget and a request for £1M during the year. They are asking us to involve the Merchant Bank as they are out of their depth.
