Taking Di and Della to the new to Neots Gateway Supermarket on a milder but wet day as my back improved and I was able to archive my Little Paxton reference material and then back to learn of Daniel’s Maths success and elevation to the 1st set as UK political leaders tour the world trying to look statesmanlike for the expected General Election and news emerges of Terry Waite being held hostage as a ‘suspected US Spy’ whilst the US is intent on keeping open the Straits of Hormuz in the Gulf and record numbers of UK nurses are leaving because of poor conditions
A sound night’s sleep and then my back was further improved by the time I was awoken to my morning tea. I sat out in the bedroom chair, drinking my tea again, and then got smartly showered and dressed to be early for breakfast. I teased Di and then Dan about them being late, ratty, and having got out of bed the wrong side (though, of course, they hadn’t), but they took this in good part, as I am rarely so early to breakfast. Daniel off to school, and then Debbie, and I repaired to my office, as Di took Della to St Neots to shop for the first time at the new Gateway supermarket.

Collecting ‘Little Lady’ with Daniel and Steve from Walton-on-Thames and then to launch it In St Neots for them to cruise it home to Little Paxton. This evening we heard of more Irish killings due to the INLA feud, of a huge explosion at BP’s Grange Mouth plant, killing a crane driver, with a bang that could be heard 20 miles away and Roy Jenkins rounds on the Tories calling them a ‘bunch of alley cats’, who are scratching and clawing their way to the ballot box.
I awoke to find Diana still in bed and so ‘persuaded’ her to get up and make the drinks! I got out and read some fish keeping magazines, before washing and dressing for breakfast. We all enjoyed a nice fried breakfast (except Di) and then I sat and read the paper until Daniel's friend, Steve, arrived and it was time to set off in the Range Rover to collect Daniel's new boat from Walton on Thames. A sunny day gradually turned cloudy, but it was still fine when we arrived and spotted the ‘Little Lady’ on its trailer. The boatyard helped us launch it and try it out, showing us over all of the controls and equipment in the process.

To Sandy and Jorden’s for supplies, dropping off Daniel to school to take his final Maths exam (which seemed to go well) and to the Koi fishery for advice from Steve Field on pond filtration before home to construct Quadro which Debbie used as a theatre to present a puppet show. This as Thatcher recognises The Alliance threat by attacking them, three dead crew members of the Herald of Free Enterprise are washed up and details of the latest South African conflicts are concealed by government censorship.
Slept fine, after a poor start. Di had not put me out any drinking water for the night and I had to get up to drink from the tap of the en-suite basin. Sat in my bedside chair again, to have my morning drink, although my back is a little bit better today. Then to get quickly washed and dressed to arrive at breakfast before Daniel left for school. It was another cold, frosty morning and I wanted to give Daniel a lift to St Neots, so as to be in control of his cold as much as possible for the second half of his mock maths exam. Once I had let out the ducks and fed the doves, it was time to load the rest of the family into the Range Rover and go to Sandy and Biggleswade.

To Bedford on a frosty day of snow and sleet in order to undertake Range Rover repairs in an atmosphere of conflict after differences with Diana over Della’s behaviour and to buy Quadro for the children and then to take Debbie horse-riding and welcome Daniel back home after his second Maths paper and to prepare him for his last examination as building society rates are cut by 1%, to a common level of 11 ¼%, rows continue over the soundness of PC Blakelock outcome and President Reagan answers Iran gate questions sticking to a prepared brief with more US finance scandals breaking. An Italian Air Force General, Licio Giorgieri, has been shot dead
Slept well, but needed a little help out of bed this morning, due to my stiff back. In fact, I sat in the bedroom chair, instead of bed, to avoid further exacerbating it. Glanced at the morning paper after breakfast and then read to the girls for a little while, but not much mail came while I waited. Then to the kitchen to prepare the money for our daily and gardener and by then it was time to get the Range Rover out for our trip to Bedford. I was upset with Di this morning and she was upset with me for criticising the way in which Della got into another crying fit. Di seems not to be able to avoid these conflicts and I was totally undiplomatic through being grumpy with my back.
