Dealing with another family crisis this bitterly cold morning abdicated by Di and then carting the family off to see my mother Grace in hospital today following her operation where the girls behaved well and we had fun and I could chat to Dad afterwards. Home to news of the INLA feud continuing with 9 more deaths and the youthful killer of 13-year-old Jaqueline Gordon appearing in Magistrates Court and that the teachers’ dispute, planned for Monday, will affect 1.8million schoolchildren
Slept well, but Diana did her ‘laying-in’ demonstration this morning and was also in her normal Sunday mood of depression. Eventually, I put the bedroom light on and started to read yesterday’s papers, then the girls came in after 7.15am to find out what had happened to the morning drinks. I showered, shaved and dressed, but by the time I had got down for breakfast, Della and Di were already at odds and Di wheeled Della out into the hall screaming again. After this, I managed to calm Della down and get her to eat her breakfast. I then took both girls out to the cul-de-sac and, whilst they cycled on other bikes, I modified Debbie's old ‘budgie’ bike by lowering the saddle and putting on the stabilisers for Daniella.

Overcoming a family crisis with Daniel’s toe injury and then to St Ives for coffee and the general auction passing a hunt in full regalia before dropping Daniel off for a weekend with the Tomblins to spend time with David and returning for Debbie to play on her new bike and then an evening watching a recorded film and football match. This as Tory MP Harvey proctor mows down 10 students and Roy Jenkins was elected Chancellor of Oxford University, beating two right wingers to do it. President Reagan of the USA has admitted that he was wrong, for the first time, in selling arms to Iran and that his advisers that opposed it, George Shultz and Caspar Weinberger, were right
Slept well enough, after going to bed with Diana and we both started the night in a relaxed mood. Awoke a little early, but, eventually, Di brought up my tea, the girls having got up and delayed her somewhat on the way. Showered and shaved but, before I could get going, a right kerfuffle. Daniel had stubbed his toe again and was in agony and the girls were crying. It took me a while to get over that and try to help and then he partially recovered and I was the last one down to breakfast. I decided that we would give Dan a lift to school, to save his walking to the bus in St Neots. It meant that Di and the girls had to scramble to be ready and I fed the doves and then went through the long process of securing the house and setting the alarm.

A bitterly cold day after a frosty night ending with cloud, sleet and rain but we take a trip to Bedford Auction but hear that Kimbolton teachers are dead against Daniel taking his ‘O’-level early before home to receive an amazing historical report detailing the building of Riversfield House and hearing that the Parish Council had already voted in favour of the Paxton Hall development. Prep for Daniel tonight and The Country Companion for Debbie as Mathhew Taylor wins Truro for the Liberals and becomes the youngest MPwith a huge majority and more feuds and bombs lead to deaths in Ulster
Slept reasonably, in spite of the strains and stresses and awoke quite easily to my morning tea. Up briskly and quickly showered and shaved, also washed my hair, which I had intended to do for a few days. A little late to breakfast and then went to my office to sort out a few things for our trip to Bedford. Had to pay in several cheques to the building society and also leave behind the money for Pete and Joan. I tried to phone the Kimbolton Head of Mathematics, Mr Petty, but was asked to phone a little later. We all set off for Bedford and, after parking at Lurk St multi-storey car park, I raced off to find a phone box to call the sage. Got through to him and had a reasonable chat. They are all dead against the idea, but at least undertook to consider it.

Better sleep on a very cold night but feeling ill this morning before lunch with Di's mother Norma before visiting Nigel and Lyne after a rest and talking about schooling etc. News today that the government has given the go ahead for an American-designed pressurised water reactor for installation at Sizewell. Sizewell B, the end of our own technology, former MI5 agent, Peter Wright, is awaiting the judgement of the secrets case in Australia, Pop singer, Boy George, has been charged with possessing cannabis and US, President Reagan has suffered a snub by the House of Congress, who have refused a request for a further $100 million and another 30,000 teachers, in 11 education areas, staged ½ day strikes today and, of course, Thatcher has condemned them
Slept reasonably on a very cold night, but awoke with a headache, which got steadily worse. On time, down to breakfast and sorted out the children and their rooms. Eggs for breakfast this morning, which we all enjoyed. To the office and started sorting out my outstanding action items and papers. My headache was too bad and so I lay in the lounge for a little while. Deciding that a walk might help, I put the camera in my pocket and dressed up for a tour of the village in the cold, but sunny weather. Walked along the tow path and then through the village centre, taking photographs of the allotments, the old school, and a number of other houses, including Rose Lawn. Home before lunch, but still had the headache, that had turned into a rather sick migraine. Took a couple of aspirin and gradually recovered, as Di's mother joined us for a nice salad lunch.
