I was late getting going on a hot and humid day and then spending time organising matters before getting The Lady ready for our trip to Norfolk, though it seems that Moore’s will not negotiate the price of Admiral’s Cottage. Debbie has a long doctor’s examination of her hay fever symptoms, but Della is fine. Delivering election leaflets this evening whilst the news is full of industrial unrest and the pound week giving rise to interest rate fears which are even more unsettling for the housing market
A bit late getting going today after all my activity. When I did, I cleared my office desk and filed some paperwork. Then I cleaned the boat fenders and spoke on the telephone to White Horse Agencies of Wroxham. Moore’s are not willing to move significantly on price and doubt the need for a meeting tomorrow but I insist on one anyway. I also expedited a few other matters, such as getting ponies for the Village Hall fête and boat transport to get The Lady to Norfolk. Diana and I are having second thoughts over the purchase of Admiral’s Cottage in view of the price disagreement in the small chance of using the cottage whilst the hirers have first call. We really prefer to be afloat on the Broads, but we shall see.

Resuming work with Diana on The Lady, cleaning the hull as she cleans the cabin roofs and then front and back cabins and then taking Diana to the Little Chef for lunch, after which we bought some fender cleaner and spray for Sundance as well as an automatic hose timer the pond. Also informing my Norfolk estate agent that I was seeking to negotiate the price of Admiral’s cottage. Taking Debbie to the stables later and driving to Cambridge to set up my computer before arriving home late
This morning I resumed work on The Lady. I went around the hull in the dinghy and scrubbed off a great deal of filth so that the boat looked quite nice in the end. Di was out to help me, as she cleaned the cabin roofs and hoovered the back and front cabins. I broke off a little while to make a few telephone calls and arranged to go to Norfolk on Thursday. I explained to the estate agent that I was looking to negotiate the price because the surveyors report had indicated a £135,000 house price valuation.

After a late night and delayed start to and increasingly warm day, Diana and I worked together to clean the Lady before we took a swim in the pool and when out shopping and for lunch. It was only during the cool of the evening, I could finish my financial summaries for the end of the tax year. Hong Kong’s Governor, Sir David Wilson, said that people in the colony with UK passports should be allowed into Britain
I had another late night and was then reluctant to wake up this morning. After a late breakfast I toyed with the idea of working on at my paperwork but then decided to leave it and start the process of cleaning up The Lady. I persuaded Diana to join me and I scrub the decks and outside of the cabins as she cleared up the ceilings and cabin windows inside. The day started dull but got steadier warmer and we gave up our cleaning at 11 AM and took a swim in our pool before going shopping and having lunch out together.

A lay in on a fine and very warm day which I started by mowing the games lawn as Daniel cleaned my car for me. After a nice roast chicken Sunday lunch, Daniel helped me pull The Lady onto the mooring after which I commissioned its toilets water system engine and heating. The Chinese police are arresting leading dissidents and back home Liverpool dockers continue strike action and Chancellor Lawson and Margaret Thatcher disagree on the causes of inflation
We all had a fair lay in this morning and did not come down to breakfast until 8:30 AM. A fine fried breakfast for the first time in a while and then to my conservatory to feed the fish and open the ventilators. The weather was fine and very warm today and so I decided to work outside rather than in my office. I decided to mow the games lawn first and had to commission the fine roller mower. This took a while but, when using machine, I found that the games lawn is less uneven than last year and has benefited from the winters top dressing. I got Daniel to clean the car is why I was doing all this and then we played a game of bowls together when we had finished. A lunch of nice roast chicken and then this afternoon I decided to tackle the boat. Daniel helped me pull The Lady to the mooring by the summerhouse and then I commission the toilets, the water system, the engine and heating system.
