Into Wroxham for coffee at the Riverside Cafe again before doing some shopping the hottest day ever recorded, beating the previously hottest, in 1911, and then using the Heronshaw electric power to update my electronic diary for this last week or two and this was about as much as I could do in the heat of the day! This evening, we took the Paxton Princess away from the moorings and cruised up to Wroxham and back as there was nowhere to moor. Iraqi troops mass on Saudi Arabian border at the start of the Gulf War
This morning was hot from a very early time and we had breakfast on the balcony again to get out of the heat. We found out later that today was the hottest day ever recorded, beating the previously hottest, in 1911, by a degree Fahrenheit! I had taken a bath last night (and Diana and Daniel had one this morning) and so we are making good use of our riverside base. Then we went into Wroxham for coffee at the Riverside Cafe again before doing some shopping. This afternoon, I also used the opportunity of the Heronshaw electric power to update my electronic diary for this last week or two and this was about as much as I could do in the heat of the day. Daniel's friends, Gary and Steve, arrived and took off in the inflatable dinghy on an adventure whilst I took Di and the girls across the river to the fete on the riverside village green and then to the local swimming pool by boat before tea of toasted sandwiches on the Heronshaw veranda after. I then worked long and hard on the garden and Di also did some work inside the old bungalow on what was the hottest day of our holiday and perhaps ever. Saddam Hussein's Iraq invades Kuwait before dawn and President Bush orders US economic embargo against Iraq
This was the day of the Horning Village Fete which takes place with the Regatta in full swing and makes several thousand pounds each year for the British Legion, Village Hall and other charities. Daniel's friends, Gary and Steve, had arrived last night for a visit and stayed the night at Heronshaw, sleeping on the lounge floor in their sleeping bags. They took off in the inflatable dinghy this morning on an adventure whilst I took Di and the girls across the river to the fete on the riverside village green. It was a nice traditional affair with a marquee under which we could get out of the sun and have morning coffee and, later, a sandwich lunch. There were games to play such a "Splat the Rat", "Knock the Lady Out of Bed" and Bowls and Tombola. Stalls sold cakes, crafts goods, second-hand books and children’s' things and we had a go on just about everything. I put Debbie on the "bed" and managed to knock her off with my last shot of five.

After a lay in and recovery, we had breakfast on the bridge of the Paxton Princess on a warm and humid morning and went into Wroxham afterwards for some shopping. Then some gardening before a meal at a restaurant in Horning and some fishing for roach with the girls at Heronshaw afterwards. It was a very hot and sunny day today with temperatures in the mid80'sF and the drought is becoming of national concern. There was a train crash at Reading with many injured and oil prices rocketed as a dispute flares up between Iraq and Kuwait
We had quite a lay in on what proved to be yet another hot day. Although we were late to get going, Diana was first up and our morning routine prevailed as usual with our drinks and showers in the right order. We then had breakfast on the bridge of the Paxton Princess on a warm and humid morning and went into Wroxham afterwards where we bought a new automatic washing machine to install at the Heronshaw laundry and I also bought a new toilet seat for the boat and another bathroom mirror. But first we had morning coffee at the Wroxham riverside cafe.
