This was the day of the Horning Village Fete which takes place with the Regatta in full swing and makes several thousand pounds each year for the British Legion, Village Hall and other charities. Daniel's friends, Gary and Steve, had arrived last night for a visit and stayed the night at Heronshaw, sleeping on the lounge floor in their sleeping bags. Daniel's friends had to go back today but he had enjoyed the visit and, as he had washed the boat, I let him take the Range Rover tonight to go and see some girls they had met on a boat.
It was very hot today - the hottest day of our holiday- but it is expected to be hotter still tomorrow and the next day and the hottest day ever on record (in 1911) may yet be surpassed. Saddam Hussein's Iraq invades Kuwait before dawn and President Bush orders US economic embargo against Iraq
