Chairing a well-attended Ropes Hill Dyke Meeting at Horning Village Hall this morning and this afternoon servicing the boat engines and mechanics to ensure that the boat was in first class condition for the forthcoming coastal trip. This evening watching England win their next match in the World Cup. The Soviet Union and Germany reforms go on apace and leave the politicians breathless in their wake
This morning, I had the meeting of the Ropes Hill Dyke residents at Horning Village Hall and I had been asked to chair it. It was a showery and changeable morning and so none of us were missing very much and the attendance was quite good as a result. I introduced everybody as best I could (as the latest resident!) and then allowed an exchange of views. This led to quite a useful amount of information being exchanged and it was agreed that a similar meeting should be arranged for next year. There was no agreement, however, to do anything collectively about the dyke, although we had information about dredging already planned by two residents and others were invited to contact them whilst the dredger was here.

After this, I went back to Heronshaw via Wroxham for some more fried plaice for lunch and then I worked all afternoon servicing the boat engines and mechanics to ensure that the boat was in first class condition for the forthcoming coastal trip. This evening, I watched England win their next match in the World Cup and qualify for the semi-finals by eliminating the Cameroons in a nail-biting finish 3-2, but the result was splendid. The Residents Association treasurer, Jim Holden, came round and suggested an introduction to a friend of his in Wroxham who has successfully restored a property in very similar condition to Heronshaw which gave me some hope. The international spotlight is on the Soviet Union and Germany as the reforms go on apace and leave the politicians breathless in their wake. I am not sure if anyone is really in control of the process.
