Back to work in Horning from Paxton via Mum in Redgrave who was still lacking confidence but settled there again with her neighbour providing most of the care.

I was first to wake up this morning and made the morning drinks for Diana and I. The mood between us was still frosty after last night, when Di stayed in the ironing room until late watching TV and delayed our departure to bed so that there was no time for us together. I was also first to take my shower and get dressed and then started work by going out to do my chores. The river was still very high and the riverside gardens were still well under water but the games lawn was still dry. I started sorting out some tools and materials in the tool shed when I was called for breakfast of melon and cereal, us not being allowed any fried breakfast any more on Sundays.

The rest of my chores after and then to my office where I struggled with a range of mail needing replies and action. I was tired from much driving lately and lack of sleep and was not in the mood to continue after lunch but I steeled myself for it and completed all I had to do my the time tea was served in the lounge. I had to tell the girls off and to punish Della after she was screaming and banging on the shower-room door in a fit of bad tempers and manners and I hope that her behaviour will improve as a result as Diana does not do enough to encourage her.
Quickly packed after this meal and then the drive first to Stanton where Mum was installed at home. She is still lacking confidence and set back by her leg injury but at least is better and settled there again with her neighbour providing most of the care. I was able to give her some new photographs of the family and of Dad's grave with the winter flower vases in place but she was not happy with the letter that I had written her which had delicately told her some home truths about her behaviour when she was being looked after by Freda and Alf. Left in time to get to Horning at around 8.30pm and then sent the next couple of hours unloading, checking everything was well, bathing, updating my journal and then settling down to bed. The funny thing is that my Heronshaw bed is old and soft but I am used to it now and find my bed at home too hard and difficult to sleep in. Defeated Labour leadership candidate, Brian Gould, has resigned his shadow cabinet position to be able to oppose his party's line on Maastricht and the EMS but he will carry little support and weight in his party which has less problems that the Conservatives.
