A quieter organising day gently chasing the Hemingford Abbots & Hilton LibDem activists who seem to be organising themselves surprisingly well.

Then walking Sam through the gravel pits and over at Little Paxton Woods in the afternoon in the sunshine on another warm but breezy day as the Tories were caught out with petty and critical text about John Smith in their Euro-Election campaigning guides.

The revised plans for delivering the Hemingford Abbots & Hilton leaflets yesterday meant that I had this morning free but I telephoned Mark Rainer a couple of times and then his partner Peggy to ensure that things were all right.

They had re-jigged the walks, printed out the canvas cards and then, in the evening, all met to research the ward to arrange some representative areas for us to canvas first. These will first give us some overall idea of how vote could go and secondly allow us to find as many older voters in as possible before the postal & proxy vote deadline.

The amazing thing is that the campaign team (joined by Angela & John Bush) are actually together planning tonight. To be working together without me this early in the campaign is both rewarding and frightening at the same time! I took Sam along past the gravel pits this morning and mused over the increasing number of pieces of land that are now surrounded by locked gates and barbed wire fences.

A drive over to near Little Paxton Woods in the afternoon in the sunshine on another warm but breezy day. Sam is now walking to heel very much better, but I did very little real training with him for once. I am now reducing his food slightly now that his droppings are too loose again. Work on my journal today so that I had nearly summarised the month of March by the end of it.

I have now finished my filing reorganisation and my office is a lot tidier. Peter the handyman has been getting on very well with the jobs around the place and has nearly finished the inside of the conservatory so that the surface is clear, and the fish are getting back to normal. I dropped his money around to him this afternoon as he will be working away at another job for a few days.

There were testaments to John Smith in the newspapers and on the radio and TV today but first the other Labour members have begun to cast around for a replacement and the Tories were caught out with petty and critical text about John Smith in their Euro-Election campaigning guides. After all their words of praise for him, this seemed insincere.

Della was back from her Brownie Camp this afternoon and, despite Diana's worries, was very happy with the stay. Daniel had his friends around today and was less secretive about his evening out yesterday with his new girlfriend. I watched The Monaco Grand Prix this afternoon and, despite a few incidents, there were no further injuries which was a blessing.
