Debbie still on school holiday for our family trip to Cambridge today and we met up with Di’s parents for coffee, went shopping and then had lunch at The Little Chef before I helped both Debbie and Daniel make good progress on their homework. The Law Lords rejected the father’s bid to save his unborn child from abortion, a Navy helicopter crashes off of Cornwall and Lord Young announces Thatcher’s latest legal sanctions against union and talks of ending the NCB monopoly as Simon Wiesenthal finds ex-Nazis in England
Slept well after another latish night and then knew nothing until morning. Morning tea and layed down after, in a doze, until Di came to make the bed and turfed me out. A little late through the shower and down to breakfast after the children had nearly finished. Daniel was back to school today, but Debbie was still at home and so we could all leave early for our trip to Cambridge today. Opted for the ‘scenic’ route, via Abbotsley and the Gransdens, as we were early, but we soon became late as we encountered heavy traffic in the south/east side of Cambridge. After queuing for ages, we had to circle the town and enter from our normal direction, when we parked easily at the Round Church car park. A little late in the end to Eaden Lilleys, but Di’s Mum and Dad had waited and we chatted a while.

A full working day editing and copying my Little Paxton Scrap Book so as to present a copy with the return of the original to Jack Ramply and then a rest watching a TV film before catching up with my journal. The harrowing case of a father trying to prevent the mother aborting his child, Bradford City are blamed for their tragic football stadium fire, Robert Maxwell is now trying to compete with the London evening papers and the Opposition parties pledge to cancel Sizewell if the Tories lose power
A rather restless start to the night, thrashing around for a while, with mind too active on this history for my own good. Eventually asleep and glad of it and was well under when the morning came. A while sitting in bed and then showered and dressed in time for breakfast. Gary had stayed for another night and was rather shocked by the realisation that he had his paper round left un-catered for! The family went swimming in St Neots (Ernulf) pool this morning and I carried on working, this time photocopying and amending the transcript of the Little Paxton scrap book and making up a presentation folder to give to Mr Jack Ramply.

I forwent my customary Sunday cooked breakfast after lots of food yesterday evening and a very late night and to tend to my doves on another cold day with the far bank lined by anglers taking part in a competition. A Lovely roast beef Sunday lunch with our best silver and china and then some televised football before helping Debbie make good progress with her Maths. The Syrians have relieved the Palestinian refugee camps and their campaign is ended, Andy Warhol dies of a heart attack having his gall bladder removed, Loyalists raiding a UDF base are stopped carrying 170 guns and the Tories have just a 1% lead in marginal constituencies
After a very late night again, I awoke still tired and a little the worse for alcohol as well. Di and I quickly agreed to forgo the cooked breakfast this morning and I ate cereal, as any other day. A brief look at the Sunday papers, but could not afford too much time at it. Went out to check the doves and ducks and had to re-fit a ring to one of the baby doves. I was concerned after this, because the mother dove took nearly half an hour to return to the nest. The day was milder than of late, but even so, the squabs must have got quite cold by then. I checked later and, fortunately, they had survived. A popular day for fishing today, now that the end of the season is in sight. The far bank of the river was lined with anglers, as they took part in a match, but they did not seem to catch very much. Daniel’s friend, Gary, had slept OK overnight, but they had both stayed up until we came in, watching a Kung Fu film and enjoying it immensely. Down to work on my history, finishing off the Paxton Hall section, before I was called in to lay up the table for lunch.

A working morning and then televised rugby after a Happy eater lunch when Daniel brought Gary back from school for the weekend and then a party evening for Charles Jackson snr at The Three Horseshoes in Maddingly as Syria invade Beirut at the dissenting government’s request, Amine Gemayle being out of the country
Slept well after laying awake for a little while, but there was no way that I could catch up on all the sleep that I had lost yesterday. Stayed at home this morning, after breakfast and finished off the Paxton Park section in terms of printout out the results. Di took the children to the shops and they returned to pick me up to take them all to the Happy Eater for lunch. A bit of a struggle to get out with them, because of the need to store my diskettes safely and lock and alarm the house. I drove them down the A1 to the Happy Eater at Sandy for a change. This afternoon, I watched the international rugby union on TV. England just lost an exciting match to France. A disappointment to lose, but at least the team played a lot better than against Ireland the other week. Gary arrived for the weekend this morning and he and Daniel talked about nothing but boats all day!
