A morning at my desk dealing with correspondence and then this afternoon visiting Dad in Addenbrookes, where his brain scan had taken place but the results were not yet known, and now his dignity if adversely affected by incontinence.
An HDC Economic Development Committee this evening where content was so sparse that they agreed with my motion to consider its future viability. Neil Kinnock carries all before him at the Labour Party Conference and the Channel Tunnel overruns budgets and suffers delays.
Another full day after a better night’s sleep as I had gone to bed earlier. This morning, I stayed at my desk and undertook no less than a dozen pieces of correspondence. All sorts of matters were dealt with and the morning was successful. This afternoon, I went to see my Dad at Addenbrookes. He had moved to another room to leave his last one free for a burns case that needed to be near to the nurses. His new room had an ensuite toilet and view of the open countryside.

The former was a blessing because he’s been taking tablets for constipation and they suddenly began to work making him incontinent. Poor thing had another accident whilst I was there, and I had to bring back three lots of pyjama trousers for washing. I bought him some man-sized tissues from the foyer shop and left them with him. The news was that dad had his brain scan at 9am this morning but the decision will not be made until the results are known and discussed with consulting colleagues. I came home for tea and then had a long evening meeting of the Huntingdonshire District Council Economic Development Committee.
I had put a couple of items on the agenda and actually got them to agree to the proposal to review the future of the committee as not having anything substantive to do. I got home at 10pm and the next hour was spent working on my Journal and catching up on the news. The first day of the Labour Party conference has seen Neil Kinnock winning his major battles after his policy review. The costs of the Channel Tunnel have risen from £5 billion to £7.3 billion with the work only partially complete.
