Driving my Rolls Royce to Cambridge for a hospital check-up after us both were advised that we had a good time to come! A mammoth task removing all the books from my office and packing everything away so as to make the office ready for the workman to survey for the refurbishment
This morning I had the indignity of having to collect a urine sample and then I could have no breakfast as I had to be in a "starved" state for my Eveleyn Hospital appointment. This was not so much of a hardship really and Diana brought me a fresh glass of water for my morning drink! I got out and to this hospital in Cambridge without too much difficulty and the receptionist, nurse and doctor were very pleasant and efficient over the check-up. I had previously completed a long and enquiring form which dealt with every aspect of my medical history and this was passed to the doctor on arrival whilst I was weighed and measured. I was 13st 9lbs and 6ft 5ins in my customary posture. I had a blood sample taken and this, with my urine, will be analysed by laboratory.

A late departure from Norfolk after the viability of saving the old Heronshaw and then home in mid-afternoon to a family that had been missing me. Then to rush off to Kimbolton to see Debbie perform in her "Upper Operetta". It was all about a hospital and a musical comedy and we were proud to see Debbie as one of the titled cast.
Bush is starting to shake up NATO and Gorbachev is having to defend his reforms from attacks by his more conservative colleagues and Nelson Mandela is visiting the UK and plunges into a controversy by suggesting the government have talks with the IRA
I had decided to stay on at Heronshaw overnight and slept well enough on the boat and got some more chores done, this time to Heronshaw itself where I cleared the garage and made space for my car next week. The neighbour came round with his friend and had a look at Heronshaw and were of the view that the place could be saved and that the builder that had been working in Wroxham thought that he could have a go at it, but I would have to arrange to see him. I left about lunch time to come back to Paxton and stopped off on the Norwich ring road at MacDonalds on the way.

Chairing a well-attended Ropes Hill Dyke Meeting at Horning Village Hall this morning and this afternoon servicing the boat engines and mechanics to ensure that the boat was in first class condition for the forthcoming coastal trip. This evening watching England win their next match in the World Cup. The Soviet Union and Germany reforms go on apace and leave the politicians breathless in their wake
This morning, I had the meeting of the Ropes Hill Dyke residents at Horning Village Hall and I had been asked to chair it. It was a showery and changeable morning and so none of us were missing very much and the attendance was quite good as a result. I introduced everybody as best I could (as the latest resident!) and then allowed an exchange of views. This led to quite a useful amount of information being exchanged and it was agreed that a similar meeting should be arranged for next year. There was no agreement, however, to do anything collectively about the dyke, although we had information about dredging already planned by two residents and others were invited to contact them whilst the dredger was here.
