A day of election work in Eaton Socon, gaining support with six colleagues canvassing after Daniel managed to get the Hayling View swimming pool off and found the water had stayed blue and free from algae
Today was spent on election and other matters. Daniel managed to get the pool cover off and found that the water had stayed blue and free from algae. Just about all of the day working on urgent telephone calls as I caught up on what was happening around the area in the election campaigns. Then this evening I went to Eaton Socon to help with the direct canvassing. It was a successful evening as we had six people working in all. Three of the candidates are working well and the effort is now to get the other two to work as well. Percy is going to work with one and I will work on the other. We are finding a lot of support for our team but also some for the Tories and Ross McKay.

"Back to Normal" after my return home, getting Della back to school and meeting with Michael Pope and Derek Giles as we reviewed the campaign further. With the Eaton’s plagued with several personal and business problems, we agreed that Percy and I would help the Derek Giles team to get their campaign going. This evening, chairing a joint Village Hall/Parish committee which is making great progress our new village hall extension.
News today of national local government election campaigns winding up as Labour and Conservative spokesmen present their latest proposals for the Poll Tax replacement in the form of a Dutch Auction, each offering £140 off for the forthcoming year!as a Greek cargo vessel found its radio mast on its bow two hours later!
I was awake early this morning as Diana stayed asleep and so I got up and read the last couple of days' financial papers whilst drinking morning tea. Della was next up and I reassured and encouraged her to prepare her for her first day back at school after a couple of weeks. Di was up late, obviously jet-lagged, and had doubts about Della but it worked out all right and she went off to school. After showering, shaving and dressing, I came down to breakfast and Daniel also joined us, leaving Debbie and Angela laying in. This morning, I phoned and organised a briefing meeting between Michael Pope and Derek Giles and we reviewed the campaign further. Priory Park is doing very well despite lack of canvassing numbers, but several personal and business problems are limiting the progress of our Eaton Socon Ward.

Arriving back to England after a long and uncomfortable flight with the night shortened by the time change but disembarkation and the journey home by car went well. Some personal problems for the Council candidates but our Priory Park campaign was going well in my absence.
John Major’s TV interview is uninspiring and highlights his lack of education. Belated UK humanitarian aid has been flown into the Kurds in Northern Iraq and the "Son of Poll Tax" measures divide the cabinet ministers over its balance of personal and property elements.
We arrived overnight in England on the Tuesday with the night shortened by the time change. The plane journey was indeed long and uncomfortable, but we arrived safely in England at Heathrow Terminal 4. No trouble with the arrival, luggage claim and long-term car park access and we were soon driving home in the fully loaded Range Rover on clear roads. I used the journey to make several long telephone calls to my political colleagues to assess the state of the local elections. I followed this up with longer calls later and ascertained that the Priory Park campaign was going well but in Eaton Socon, a number of personal/business problems were prevalent amongst our team.

Our last time in California enjoying breakfast at Coco's and another round of Crazy Golf at the miniature golf course before an early-afternoon flight back to England. These days, even the upstairs section of the British Airways Boeing 747 airliner is crowded with budget passengers and as uncomfortable as ever.
Saddam Hussein and his men had gained the upper hand against the Kurds in Northern Iraq who have been deserted by their US allies. The Los Angeles Police Department leadership is under fire and Teddy Kennedy hosts a drinking party in Palm Beach after which his nephew, William Kennedy-Smith, is accused of rape of a young woman
A day dedicated to travel back from California to England. We were up reasonably early and then went out for breakfast at Coco's which we all enjoyed. Then to the miniature golf course for another round of Crazy Golf before we went back to the hotel to complete our packing. It was after mid-day by now and we had to hustle to get checked out on time. The drive to the airport went well-enough and, by 1.15pm, we were all in the Budget courtesy bus and on our way to the terminal. The normal wait and distress in boarding, thought we we did have a pleasant-enough lunch and a drink at the terminal before getting aboard.
