Intervening to sort out the Eaton Socon Distribution problems to deliver our all-important third leaflet in this target ward but, being on site, I could supervise their afternoon canvassing too. Later, as I keyed in the results from the Canvas Cards, the Election statistics looked good. Then a letter to Labour supporters to encourage them to vote for us and defeat the Tories this time round with plans to do the same for Independent Ross McKay.
Another long election day. I had intended to spend just a little time at Stratford Place taking over the reports, seeing off the canvassers and then reviewing with Sandie Giles the arrangements to deliver our all-important third leaflet in this target ward. The problem was that their distribution system was in something of a mess, and I had to spend all morning and most of the afternoon sorting out the administration. I had to have lunch there but at least that gave me the chance of supervising the afternoon canvasing which as well was most productive. We are working our way through the very few un-canvassed houses remaining and also tackling the large number of "outs". We hope to go back to the undecideds next week as well. Back home eventually to have some pea soup and then eat my lunchtime salad as tea!

Another day devoted to the election, maximising the leaflet campaign withing legal expenditure limits as out Tory rivals squealed to the press with complaints and misgivings about our tactics, just making us look more active!
With Sally and Brian and John Davison at the AGM of the Priory Park Residents Association, I went to the Little Paxton Annual Parish Meeting which I encouraged Michael Pope to go as well as the County Councillor. The weather is still chilly with frost each night and a cool northerly breeze making it quite uncomfortable canvassing near to dusk.
Each day has been devoted to electioneering recently and this day was no exception. More canvassing data to key in to the computer and reports to print out but first I had to compose and check the "Please Vote today" leaflets before printing out several copies as artwork for the printing process. I had worked out some updated budgets that showed we could afford to make this final effort successfully and so did so. The press coverage on the election has hotted up with the Tories voicing their normal pre-election round of complaints and misgivings about our tactics.

A full day spent organising the election again, supervising the distribution of our third leaflet and designing our polling day slips with Percy and Sally, a new helper Linda and five canvassers out working this evening, This, as Peter Larkin starting work on our new moorings.
Another full day spent on election matters as we entered the last week of the campaign. A bit late down for breakfast but still supervised the girls who were already arguing at the table. Di was off into town this morning and it was good to see her still going to her slimming club. She had an upsetting experience before she went as the baby white fantail dove that she had saved in a cardboard box outside had been attacked and killed by a cat. Percy had gone off to Cambridge to collect supplies of the third leaflet today and delivered them to Priory and Eaton Socon for distribution. I met up with him, Percy and Sally later as we decided on what basis this third leaflet would be delivered and also the format of our "Please Vote Today" or "Good Morning" leaflet.

The start of the day with Debbie and the peacock again before Percy and Sally to come to join me to talk about our contribution to this afternoon's full meeting of the Huntingdonshire District Council, which went well. Then over to Eaton Socon by 6.30pm, helping with Derek Giles' campaign before Home quite late after not having eaten since lunch with no for either my journal or the inputting of more canvassing data
A bit of a lay in after last night's late bedtime, but still to the table in time to see Debbie off to school. Then I went out in the garden with Della to feed the peacock which is very partial to the dove food of mixed grain. I had arranged for Percy and Sally to come over at 11.00am and join me to talk about our contribution to this afternoon's full meeting of the District Council. Before then, I finished off our final response to Cllr Jim Whitehead's complaint, so as to be able to give it to him at the same meeting. Both our preparation for the meeting and the meeting itself went off very well as we managed to make an effective contribution without revealing that we had been away and had not actually prepared anything very much!
