After some domestic chores and office paperwork, a visit to BPGK to help Derek Giles with some business consultancy on a colder day with a cold north-easterly breeze. Some tough advice and criticism which was accepted in good grace. Daniel accompanied me and installed Word on Derek’s laptop.
Off to Cambridge to see John Matthewman later to collect the EARS software and data that I needed to take the campaign organisation further
The weather has taken a turn for the cooler with a cold north-easterly breeze making everyone feel uncomfortable outside. I was reluctantly up after getting to bed after mid-night the night before and then tended my fish and conservatory before updating my journal and getting down to work in my office. I had decided to work on my financial affairs for a couple of hours as they were becoming most urgent. At least I had got most of the urgent election matters under control. By lunchtime, I had paid most of the outstanding bills and reduced the pile of un-answered paperwork and then, this afternoon, made my way with Daniel down to Biggleswade where I had promised to give Derek Giles a hand with identifying some of his business problems. Daniel was a bit reluctant as he was going up to Manchester later this afternoon, but he still came and managed to install a copy of "Word" on the BPGK micro-computer whilst I was there. I arrived early and looked around the company plant.

Relaxing a little after Derek Giles was able to manage the poster erections without my help and so I spent time organising canvassers for the following week. Our St Neots area campaigns going well but those in St Ives and Huntingdon less so and I called their Chairman Peter Downes accordingly.
Spurs beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final and Welshman Phil Woosnam, win the US masters tournament as the fourth British player to do so in as many years. Oil well fires rage in Iraq and the Kurds are losing hundreds of children each night on their mountain sites and now Turkey are relenting and bringing refugees down for aid.
A lay in this morning and then to my shower and, while I was in there, Derek telephoned and confirmed that I would not be wanted for putting up posters this morning and so I was able to stay at home. I was soon eating a nice fried breakfast which was very welcome after all of the American meals I have been forced to eat. I worked on my campaign for most of the day, making telephone calls that went on all day and had the effect of turning out more canvassers for the forthcoming week. I was under pressure for most of this time, worrying that I was not going to get the computer software and data diskettes from John Matthewman that would be needed for completing the campaign. It ended with relief that I had managed to contact him in the end and that he was able to get the diskettes ready for tomorrow.

After a peaceful start to the day, an increasingly tense campaign of election problems with Jim Whitehead’s complaint and Tony Carmedy’ s issues but then out for some successful canvassing and off to collect and install 20 more poster boards for Eaton Soon before an evening’s rest.
I was awake quite early this morning and so went to get Diana her early morning cup of coffee which I took to her in bed. I got showered and dressed and then used the available time before breakfast to tend my fish, birds and plants. Percy and Pat Meyer came by to run over the letter in response to Cllr Jim Whitehead's complaint and I also got Michael to join us to decide what we should do. We took my route of a conciliatory letter and then completed its typing with me getting more and more anxious about the time. I was expecting Tricia to come by, but she was late, and I had to leave without seeing her. Had some success canvassing with Derek Giles and Chris Colbert and managed to get some support and poster sites in good positions.

More Election matters as I got posters organised for Angela Bush’s campaign and then time spent installing 20 poster boards in Eaton Socon. The news today is of the continuing refugee problem in Northern Iraq with more and more television pictures of the suffering Kurds who had been denied sanctuary in Turkey and Iran and being turned back to Iraq.
Back home, a slight fall in inflation and lower money rates allowed the authorities to allow the bank rate to fall by a further half percent and so some mortgage interest payments will now fall by up to 1%.
A further day on the election hustings but I also spent time with the gardener and on the swimming pool. I was in telephone contact first thing with Tricia Bridges-Palmer about posters for Angela Bush. Then a number of other calls leading to me completing artwork for both this and for Eaton Ford and eventually I managed to get Percy Meyer to go over to Cambridge to get them run off. After lunch, I went over to Eaton Socon and got the poster-board campaign under way. We took out about 20 or so boards and installed them around the village and made a good start. Home for tea and then off again to Eaton Socon to get some canvassing done.
