The day working at home in my office with Sam for company as Diana disapproves. He had performed well and obediently across planted fields in Yelling and across the river in Paxton.
I picked up a message from Sally and went over to key in the canvassing results in Eaton Ford so far. The day was milder than of late and dry as well and this would have been a good day were it not for the row with Diana.
I had a very productive and satisfying day that was then totally overshadowed by Diana's reaction to it. The mistake that I had made was to invite Sam into my office for an hour or two whilst she was out where he entered by the double doors and then sat and lay contentedly on a blanket spread for that purpose. This was too much for Diana who accused me of lying about not bringing him into the house and then going back on my promise to take her to America every year!

I had learned that I needed to have some inside contact with him during the winter cold and darkness to continue the process so well started during my trip to Brancaster and thought that I was safe to let him onto a special blanket in my office where Diana never goes but I was wrong. At least for today it gave me company whilst Di was out shopping in Bedford and let me get on with a mound of what might otherwise have been depressing paperwork. I had driven Sam over to Yelling for a walk across planted fields where he quartered better than before and was quite obedient.
Then I had lit the fire upon my return and enjoyed his company whilst completing a host of correspondence. I made telephone calls to progress repairs on my computer and Daniel's car before making my own lunch of soup in the absence of any salad in the fridge. Another long walk in the afternoon; taking Sam along the river to the other side of Paxton Pits after some water retrieves where he did some more quartering. His pattern was quite good but he has yet to point a pheasant which I think is mostly bad luck and immaturity rather than lack of ability.
Then home to carry on work when I picked up a message from Sally and went over to key in the canvassing results in Eaton Ford so far. They had almost completed a full canvass and I entered the data on the cards that were urgently needed for this evening and then brought the rest back to do in my office this evening. It was at teatime that Diana was upset and then she broke off talking and went off in a huff that lasted until bedtime as I just worked on. The day was milder than of late and dry as well and this would have been a good day were it not for the row with Diana.
