Some reading and work on one of my steamer chairs before an accountant’s tax meeting and then to market with dozens of duck eggs for auction after failing to reach my industry contacts as Stansted is planned to become London’s Third Airport and FIFA consider banning English international as well as Club football
Awake to my morning tea and still a little tired after my recent late nights. Then the paper and breakfast of cereal, brought to my bedside, which is a luxury I am getting used to. Up to wash whilst listening to ‘Yesterday in Parliament’ on the radio and recordings of Thatcher’s hectoring tones again as she seems to have abandoned her new ‘soft’ image she acquired from her speech lessons. Dressed and out to feed the doves and a look at the newly varnished steamer chair that has dried overnight. Then to the office as it comes on to rain heavily. Some time sorting out calculations and papers for today’s meeting with my accountants and then off to meet Roger Brittain for my 11.00 o’clock appointment.
An hour and a half of complex discussion and all matters resolved. Details of earnings, expenses and interest determined and the decision made to run the consultancy on a yearly accounting basis, to June 30th. Home to a lunch of pie, bread rolls and ice cream to follow and then to the office, where I filed away the papers and tried to call Owles Hall, but all engaged. I broke off and went to town to drop off 5 ½ dozen duck eggs to the market showroom and then call in to the Employment Office to find out about paying self-employed NHI stamps. It seems that I should have been doing this since August. On to the auction rooms again, but nothing much of interest for tomorrow. Home to the office and to write to my accountants, tea and then to apply a second coat of varnish on my chair until dark. News tonight of a decision to go ahead for a third airport for London at Stanstead. The picture is clouded by more expansion for Luton and some international flights for the regions. They continue to dig at the collapsed well on the Isle of Wight, find fresh air, but no sign of life yet. A press conference has been called by FIFA for tomorrow amidst speculation that action may be taken to ban English international participation abroad. The early reports from the Bradford fire enquiry point to an accidental start to the fire. The weather finishes as it began today with heavy rain and more is forecast for tomorrow.
