Prince Andrew and Sarah Fergusson marry today and become the Duke and Duchess of York

Successful day’s cruising along The Old West River to Ely for the day and then, with The Lady dressed overall for the Royal Wedding, up The River Cam to The Bridge at Clayhythe through rain and showers to stop, catch fish and dine at the inn. The news was of the Prince Andrew marrying Sarah Fergusson and HM The Queen dubbing them The Duke and Duchess of York

Slept better still as we get used to the boat regime, but woke at 3.00am and found the night so cool as to need to close one of our cabin windows. Breakfast as normal, then cast off The Lady’s mooring ropes from the rond anchors and set off down the remainder of the Old West River and then the main river to Ely. A bright, but breezy and cool morning, but it came on to shower with rain as we got to Ely.

Filled up the water tanks and with 7 gallons of diesel, before flushing the water tanks once more and mooring opposite. A morning shopping in Ely, but I came back to dress The Lady with Union Jack bunting and watch the Royal Wedding on TV. Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson, with all due ceremony and with the popular acclaim of the people. Crowds lined the streets and the High Street of Ely was empty as the service took place. The Queen has made them the Duke and Duchess of York as well. A nice Royal Family celebration and contrast with the Queen’s duties in opening the Commonwealth Games tomorrow. Together with my family for lunch at our favourite eating place in the High Street, before shopping for perishables at Tesco’s on the way back to the boat. We also took a look round Ely Cathedral and I thought that the children were quite impressed by the architecture and history of the place. Good to see the presence of many international tourists. Set off up the Cam, then through the electric lock to moor at The Bridge Clayhythe. We went through heavy rain and showers on the way, but it was fine for the evening. We fished from the boat and caught lots of Rudd and Roach by the reeds and willow tree. Dinner with Di in the Inn – roast beef for her and venison for me – then caught three more Rudd before dark. The children wrote their post cards today and seem to be enjoying the holiday as much as us. The news was all of the Royal Wedding, which was quite fitting
