The Lady and Little Lady moored up in the Norfolk Broads
The Lady and Little Lady moored up in the Norfolk Broads

After a noisy night in Langley Dyke, and an unsuccessful early morning fishing, we cruised upstream to Norwich for a latish lunch, stopping at the Brundall Riverside stores for some shopping. Some ball games with the girls, a stark dinghy ride to the head of navigation and then an early night. The news seems to be about the Middle East and hostage negotiations.

What was to have been a quiet night in Langley Dyke started with the raucous behaviour of a boat crew returning from the Wherry Inn and then continued with arguments amongst a troublesome flock of ducks. At 6am, it was cock pheasants making their vocal and territorial claims over parts of the adjacent wood. I got up at 6am, dressed roughly and tried fishing but only had a few nibbles and one small fish.

I think that the Norwich City pollution of the Yare spoils its water quality so that only small fish and eels survive. We soon cruised off upstream to Norwich, passing Brundall en route and stopping for some shopping in the Riverside Stores there. We pushed on and moored up at Norwich in time for a latish lunch. It was another hot and sunny day and, when I first got out of the boat this morning, a layer of mist hung over Langley Marsh that was picturesque. We returned, tired, to the Lady this evening and, after some ball games with the girls to keep them amused, I settled down for an early night in my new sleeping bags quite exhausted. I had also taken a ride in the dinghy up around Norwich beyond the normal head of navigation, but found it quite stark and forbidding.

The news seems to be about the Middle East and hostage negotiations, but I’m not listening to the media.
