I had an early start for my visit to the Koi Carp auction at infiltration, and enlightening experience, and then home in time to join the family for this evening’s Harvest Supper and Barn Dance at the Village Hall.
28 actively-serving UDR men were arrested today under firearms and confidentiality charges and there have been widespread demonstrations for progress towards democracy in the German Democratic Republic.
We had an earlier night but then we slept on a bit and this made me rather late for my trip to Golborne. It was 7:30am when I woke up and I was out of the door by 8am to show how anxious I was to get going. The roads were quiet, and I got access to the M1 in 40 minutes and all the way up the M1 and M6 to Warrington in about 2 ½ hours.

The day was quite sunny up north today but seem dull and dreary at home. Infiltration (the Koi Carp place) is situated on an industrial unit with large Koi ponds raised off the ground. The auction lots of Koi were individually bagged with water and oxygen in lines and labelled for viewing prior to the sale. I did not bid for any of the carp because they were end of season stock that had gone un-sold all of this time. Later this month, via the Koi fish harvest in Japan, the Koi are netted from the clay ponds where they had been put out to growth for the season.
I did buy some food and breeding accessories, however, which I obtained before the rush started. The Koi auction itself was quite interesting. A gas-powered forklift truck drove to and fro with each auction lot on the fork so that everybody could see the lots to bid. Each bidder had a number for ease of identification. Most lots went for £50-£100 for individual medium sized fish and multiple lots of small ones the better Koi could only fetch £200-£250 and their £300-£400 reserves were seldom reached.
I drove home on somewhat busier roads but got back at 5:20pm which was on time to join the family for this evening’s Harvest Supper and Barn Dance at the Village Hall. This was a nice occasion where the youngsters could join in the dancing. I was rather tired after all of these exertions, and went to bed for once without writing up my journal. The main news of the day was the arrest of 28 actively-serving UDR men who were due to appear in court tomorrow under firearms and confidentiality charges. In the German Democratic Republic (GDR – East Germany), there have been widespread demonstrations as Eric Honecker, the leader, refuses a Gorbachev call for progress towards democracy.
