Working on another mild day at home getting trailer loads of ballast from Cosy Corner and concreting the slipway winch as we hear of the death of Kimbolton Prep School Headmaster Hugh Hunter
Tired again this morning but determined to get a few things done today. Breakfast with Della and then, after getting ready, I went out to see the gardener. He helped me hitch up the trailer to the Range Rover and then I went to Cosy Corner and got the first of two loads of ballast so that he could get on with the concreting again after a period of delay. It proved difficult to get this sand and gravel mixture across the games lawn and so we had to unload it into the wheelbarrow and carry it across which was quite energy-sapping and time-consuming but we did it in the end.

Michelle was here again to look after Della, and they were quite occupied this morning as Diana was out shopping and doing errands the whole time. She took back the pillows to Holly Ward and the other wheelchair to Huntingdon Red Cross and was delayed with everyone asking after Della as she went. Lunch and then this afternoon and evening at my desk trying to finish sorting out the archiving of this last two month's journal and then attending to financial paperwork. Mr Dyer, the Cambridgeshire Constabulary Firearms Officer called by appointment to interview me about my application for a shotgun certificate and seemed well satisfied. In fact, he was fascinated by the house and the historical items inside it as his hobby was local history.
Tragic news this afternoon of the death of Prep School Headmaster Hugh Hunter who did not recover from a heart attack this morning. This was very sad news for us as he had shown such compassion and concern for Della after her accident. He was the guiding spirit of the school and all the parents, staff and children are devastated. We left it until another time to tell Della. Another mild day today but colder weather forecast as the pressure stays very high.
