Another trying day with Della as she is very difficult to console but she takes her first steps in her plaster with her crutches. I was struggling to find a suitable agency nurse to work at home with Della.
Diana had managed to get to sleep all right last night and had taken some cough mixture to help with the cold and sore throat that she had been suffering from. I was shattered and also slept well, but woke up after 6.30am and came down for breakfast with Debbie. I stayed at home for a while, first feeding the doves, fish etc and attending to the chores. Then the clearing up of the kitchen after which I topped up the water softener up with salt and sorted out the tumble drier. It had been failing with a clogged outlet for the moist air and I removed the fine grill that had been causing the trouble. I also tidied up the cupboards in the utility room before getting on with some telephone enquiries to organise Daniella's return home early next week.

A testing day after Della's operation and the installation of a very uncomfortable and itchy Plaster that encased her chest, hips and all of her broken leg down to the tips of her toes.
She became quite inconsolable after a while, thrashing around and scratching until two nurses managed to console her and I stayed to eventually get her off to sleep and came home.
I was awake very early this morning in anticipation of Della's big day with the thought of her getting a cold the main fear. Postponement would mean a more difficult job for her leg. I found Diana in bed before 6.00am and, as a warm and receptive bed-mate and was pleased as a consequence. She seems to have forgiven me over our tiff the other day. Stayed at home long enough to see Debbie safely off to school and then joined Diana at the hospital. Della started the day in good spirits and was her happy self as she posed for the camera and was then wheeled down to the theatre just after 9.00am. She had managed to avoid getting the cold despite both Diana and I suffering from one.

Spending lots of time with Della on the eve of her operation as a pre-medical day but also dealing with the political aftermath of my St Neots LibDem relationship issues.
The TV and news all about the European debate in the House of Commons with John Major low key, Thatcher in spoiling mood and Kinnock fiery all to little avail.
The day started slowly for me again as I was reluctant to get out of bed after all of the late nights I had been having. Debbie got the breakfast and then panicked over the time as her watch had been running slow but there was still time for her to catch her bus in the end. She has been having exams every day and seems to be coping with this quite well. Overall, she has been very good over Della as all of the attention has been diverted to her. This morning and most of the afternoon, I took the chance of catching up on these last week's journal entries which had been perpetually behind. Once Della is plastered and home, we will have less travelling but more work to do in keeping her happy and occupied.

Orchestrating a LibDem Town Group Conciliation Meeting, but without Michael, and getting Della update after Diana had seen Mr Vaughan-Lane again (who had come round with his complete team to examine Della) and learnt that she would have a general anaesthetic after which the leg would be straightened and adjusted before being encased in a plaster that would come up to her chest.
I was slow to awake today and, it being very wet and windy, had to scramble to get showered and dressed in time to take Debbie to the bus stop. In the end, we arrived there in time and before the actual bus arrived. Returned home and then embarked on calls to Sally and Percy which ended up with them both coming over to my house to revue Michael's letter and what to do about it. He had stated his decisions to resign as chairman of the St Neots & District Liberal Democrats and from its committee and to no longer attend Town and District Council Group Meetings.
