Spending lots of time with Della on the eve of her operation as a pre-medical day but also dealing with the political aftermath of my St Neots LibDem relationship issues.
The TV and news all about the European debate in the House of Commons with John Major low key, Thatcher in spoiling mood and Kinnock fiery all to little avail.
The day started slowly for me again as I was reluctant to get out of bed after all of the late nights I had been having. Debbie got the breakfast and then panicked over the time as her watch had been running slow but there was still time for her to catch her bus in the end. She has been having exams every day and seems to be coping with this quite well. Overall, she has been very good over Della as all of the attention has been diverted to her. This morning and most of the afternoon, I took the chance of catching up on these last week's journal entries which had been perpetually behind. Once Della is plastered and home, we will have less travelling but more work to do in keeping her happy and occupied.

Diana was at the hospital early on and then, after the play lady had looked after her all morning, went back after an early lunch until Naomi's mother came to sit in from 4.00pm until 6.00pm. This left both Diana and I to be able to spend time with Debbie with a Little Chef lunch the main attraction. I took time out to also pursue my Heronshaw planning application and make and receive some telephone calls with my Town Council colleagues so as to ensure that they have the group communication thoroughly under control. I also telephoned our Parliamentary Candidate, Cllr Sue Sutton, to keep her in the picture as she is a county colleague of Michael and was at the Cambs C.C. meeting yesterday.
I was along at the hospital again later and looked after Della on the eve of her operation before she went to sleep. Had a long talk to the male nurse and the others, presenting them with a copy of my letter to our doctor asking for district nursing help with Della before her release. I had spoken to Freda about the kind of problems we should expect and was keen to get the modern light-weight plaster which would make Della's care more straightforward. Della was rather apprehensive about what was planned for her with the "needle prick" the most worrying thing to suffer!
It was 11.30pm before I finally got her off and then it was after talking about my Dad which made her cry. She was so comforted by my presence, she was sad that I no longer had a daddy to so the same thing! At least that took her mind off things and she was soon asleep - with the credit more to Grandad than Dad. I left her hoping that he would be looking down on her tomorrow as well with my first concern that she should not catch my cold which could postpone things. Very frosty tonight as I drove home and it took some time to clear the windscreens.
The TV and news all about the European debate in the House of Commons. The usual thing; Major with a low-key and dull delivery, Kinnock more fiery and rattled by back-bench interventions and then Thatcher hand-bagging the front bench by calling for a referendum about adopting a single currency in the knowledge that this would be the way of throwing a spanner in the works. Paddy Ashdown's contribution to come later with his reasoned words falling on a mostly-empty house.
