Walking Sam around Horning and working on the structural problem at Harnser, investigating and then tightening bolts on the building wooden frame. Some shopping with Daniel before he took his girl Dawn skating later on.
The forecast rebellion in the House of Lords, led by Margaret Thatcher, fizzled away today and there was a bonus for John Smith as a joint Labour Party/Union meeting recommended acceptance of planned reforms to bring "one-man, one-vote" to party elections
I slept pretty well last night, getting to bed around 12.30am and waking up with the dog at 7.30am. I had made up both of the beds from the foldaway unit and Daniel was comfortable as well apart from his being much the shorter of the two! Crept downstairs to wash and shave and then out to walk the dog. We found a lady with a young Retriever on the sawdust road and both she and I were happy to have the dogs play together for a while whilst we chatted. They come from Birmingham and she was interested in how I was training Sam.

It started raining yesterday evening and this continued all night but there was a pause first thing this morning so that we did not get too wet. Back to Harnser where I made breakfast for Sam and then I kept an eye on Daniel and helped him with his use of my power tools whilst I did there washing up and then updated this last day and a half's diary until the weather cleared up totally so that I could get out. I surveyed the structural problem with Harnser and was pleased to see that the crack had not opened up much more. I took care to find the exact place on the cladding where the bolts came and then started the process of uncovering them.
I had to wait until later in the day to complete this task and, then finding the bolts loose, I had the satisfaction of tightening each bolt by two to three turns which reduced the gap by at least half. Earlier in the day, I spent some time helping Daniel, making lunch and doing the washing up, and then taking him on a shopping expedition. We got the Escort in for its MOT test, bought some more rustic poles for my dog-fencing and then some more materials and food. Daniel went off skating with Dawn this evening but this time, instead of waiting up, I turned into bed earlier and left him to it.
The forecast rebellion in the House of Lords, led by Margaret Thatcher, fizzled away today and the government successfully resisted a move to have a referendum on the Maastricht Treaty. A bonus for John Smith as a joint Labour Party/Union meeting recommended acceptance of planned reforms to bring "one-man, one-vote" to party elections and end the system of union block votes. It stayed fine from late morning onwards, but more rain was forecast.
