Our last day in Norfolk as the weather broke was spent in Wroxham with the girls and then leaving Horning to Paxton after an astonishing conversation with Arthur Edmunds and disappointment over terms to maintain the road.
News from the by-election is of the choice of a very aggressive final leaflet that will either kill or cure the campaign.
We had decided that this was our last day in Norfolk and that seemed like a good decision as the weather broke with heavy rain showers blown about by high winds.

It was another slower start as I took Sam for a walk into Horning to buy a newspaper and combined this with dropping my letter into Arthur Edmunds house off Lower Street. Back for breakfast and some clearing up before we took off for Wroxham for the first time this trip.
We parked by the Riverside Cafe and enjoyed a snack and a drink before letting the girls go off to the library whilst we did some shopping. We looked at lawnmowers but again could not decide on a better replacement for the one that we have so we contented ourselves with buying weed killer and stocking up with cash from the building society.
Back to the cafe for lunch but this time the girls had got into an argument, and I had to discipline them by sending them outside in turn. This afternoon, I dodged the heavy rain showers to pull up more of the remaining weeds and apply a strong solution of weed killer to the cleared gravel.
I was enjoying this until Arthur Edmunds came round, returned my request for quotation back to me and told me to "get stuffed" which I thought was the most non-commercial approach I have ever had from a potential supplier in my life. He is nothing if not frank and he said that he was "fed up with you people and your demands" and said that he would either do the work in accordance with his previous estimates with the cash paid up front or not at all.
There was not much I could say to this amazing display and so I let him leave. The fact that his estimates did not even cover the full length of the road and were not want the residents wanted was beside the point to him. I got back on with my work as far as I could and then we packed up our things and left just before tea-time.
In view of the Friday traffic around Norwich, we stopped first at the Horning Leisure Centre for some food and drink and then drove off separately heading for home, arriving at around 8.00pm. News from the by-election is of the choice of a very aggressive final leaflet that will either kill or cure the campaign. It is not really to my taste, but I will back the judgement of my colleagues.
