Recovering my lost ducks and composure on a hot and sunny day before Daniel and his friend Paul enjoy female company at the pool and ends with a BBQ at home and a downpour as I ponder how to save the deal to sell Comart
A long lay in punctuated only by an excellent fried breakfast and time to read The Sunday Times and Economist closely. A fine sunny and hot day as I rose about 10.30am and gathered the boys for an attempt at retrieving the two last ducks that we had located yesterday at the Paper Mill. Unfortunately today’s gatekeeper was not willing to allow us to catch them there, but I returned for the dinghy and at long last managed to herd them back up the weir stream, into the lock stretch and down towards the Paper Mill lock.

Hot and sunny day sorting out the Comart mail and the aftermath of the poor Kode contractual negotiations before a nice Family pub lunch and then out on a Wild Duck Hunt with Daniel as the Summit story is one of a ‘Thatcher/Reagan show’ with declarations strong on control of inflation and freedom of international trade.
A lay in reading the papers before a breakfast of cornflakes and top of the milk. Then, with Diana, off to Little End Road to have a drink of coffee and sort the Saturday mail for industry journals to read and the Grove House mail. Then up to Little Paxton to collect my three year planning binder for study and to make phone calls to John Lamb and Derek Weatherby to ask them about last night’s events. They are both disappointed that Kode had made rather a mess of the service agreement drafts and had also spoken of these changes in front of David Fear and Ian Nickson; where John wanted contact to be through him. I reinforce my view that either these contracts are concluded this week to my satisfaction or not at all and we will carry on as before. I will now take a personal interest in the negotiations and control them.

Mostly fine and warm day progressing the Comart profit forecasts and takeover terms and more realistic executives’ share conversions/service contracts as the World Economic summit goes badly
First to the Eaton Socon factory to collect the Grove House mail, computer journals and spend time in discussion with John Lamb and Derek Weatherby on John’s news of French candidates, and David Fear’s marital developments on the one hand and Derek’s progress on the accounts and discussions with the Auditors on the other. I review the days timetabling and arrangements to meet Peter Smith this afternoon before driving up to Grove House accordingly and briefing Peter King. Then to call Richard James and run through the latest contract draft and consultancy agreement with our desired construction and amendments.

A hot and sunny day working on the internal and external aspects of the Kode takeover; culminating with an evening meeting with Peter Smith, resolving many of them as the miners’s dispute widens and the world’s large nations realise that they cannot coordinate economic matters
Up on time and my normal breakfast of toast and fruit juice. Early to Little End Road to collect certain items of post, files on the BMMG and industry affairs and to talk in some depth with Derek Weatherby on aspects of the takeover and administration. We decide the Kode advisers have got to be restrained from interfering with the process of budgeting and that all contact from now on should be through Derek himself. Off to Grove House and the morning working on general office matters and catching up to date. Over lunch I write up my list of concerns and queries for Peter Smith to consider and in late afternoon I hear that he will be visiting in the evening with Stephen Day to discuss these, the consultancy and the draft of circular. Our new £200K DTI grant has certainly helped things.
