Sad news of the death of a former employee but we go ahead with a Comart Review meeting and then the same for the Byte Shop whilst the Comart Sale date set for next Tuesday now that Peter King has signed his contract and we expect tax clearance today.
A hot but windy day, although difficult to get cool air into the meetings I had planned for today. Up early and to the office to prepare for the meetings and make a few phone calls. I establish with Nigel that I am waiting for his latest policy statement before approaching the new potential members. I hear from Peter King that he has met Kode yesterday and signed his contract which completes the minority shareholder and service agreements. Richard James of Ashursts explains that we are expecting the section 460 clearance today and so I resolve to contact him later. Then to Little End Road for the Comart Review Meeting and plans affected by the tragic news today of the death of Melvyn Grey, our former product support engineer, after a prolonged illness and period of unconsciousness.

Morning making progress on the Comart takeover and this afternoon visiting the DTI in London to discuss the BMMG Network Development plans as the railwaymen plan to strike on Wednesday in support of the Miners
Up, breakfast, and to the office on time but concerned to see some of the others arriving somewhat late. The secretaries continue to bicker at Grove House and seem more concerned about the conditions than getting on with the job. I spend the morning sorting out my BMMG papers and reorganising the filing. I prepare for this afternoon’s meeting and try to contact Nigel Smith and Chris Shelton but the first is unavailable and the second’s phone is out of action. I then concentrate on the Kode takeover and find out from Richard James that the Inland Revenue are replying with a recommendation with regard to section 480 this afternoon and a meeting is planned with Townsends to finish off the contracts. It could therefore be that the signing takes place on Thursday.

A good day working outside after a slow start when Diana and I get the chance to discuss our plans as news breaks of the Morpeth Curve train crash
An even slower start, staying in bed until nearly 12 o’clock reading The Sunday Times until eventually turfed out so that Diana could make the bed. The unsettled period to contract signing is affecting my concentration on a number of issues at the moment. For such a significant thing to be delayed is a problem, particularly with Diana also in the latter stages of pregnancy. We talk a little this morning about the arrangements and how we will manage. Eventually to wash quickly and out to clean the duck’s hutch and burn the old straw together with the contents of the brazier.

Daniel’s Sports Day at Kimbolton School with young mums in St Trinians outfits to keep me interested!
A slow start reading the paper in bed until up and washed a little late and off to Kimbolton in the Rover with Diana and Debbie. It is Daniel’s sports day at Kimbolton School and, whilst he has not been entered for any event, we turn out to see his friends and the school grounds. There is a cool breeze but the sun shines and free cups of drink keep us comfortable although eventually Di has to go off on a long expedition to find Debbie a toilet. Many boys and girls jumping, running, hopping and cheering until eventually at 12.00noon the relay races end the event and a whole range of cups and shields are awarded to the star performers.
