Diana doing better at her slimming club
Diana doing better at her slimming club

Hectic day of building work as they work on the kitchen & dining room of No7 and I screw down the floorboards in completed rooms whilst Diana suffers from the cold with a fractious Della but loses 5lbs in the slimming club

A reasonable night in view of the circumstances and then, after morning tea, I had a quick slice of toast and fruit juice, before getting quickly washed and dressed to be ready for the builders. The plumber fixed up the new sitting room radiators so that the carpet layers could lay our new carpet and it was very much up to our best expectations. Brittain’s are a good firm and their operators take a pride in doing the job well. Back in our own house it was a mad scramble to vacate the kitchen and dining room so that the builders could start there. They lost no time in removing the doors and demolishing the wall between the two rooms, raising a large amount of debris in the process. Upstairs we had just started to make up Daniel’s bedroom and restore it to normal when the electrician needed to get all of the floorboards up to reorganise the kitchen electrics and so we had to empty it in a hurry. For the first time I lost my temper at this lack of planning and it showed as I snapped for Mr Cheeseborough to keep the doors shut as he swept up!

For most of the day the heating and electricity was off as they removed the boiler from the kitchen and put it in the link building on a temporary installation. They had re-commissioned it by this evening. I light the fire today in anticipation of this inconvenience, but it only just kept the lounge warm enough for me and not nearly enough for Di. Di went to her slimming club this morning and was pleased to have lost 5lbs since last week. I dropped into town before lunch to get some screws and a new pump-action screwdriver and spent most of the day screwing down the chipboard flooring in the two completed bedrooms, working all afternoon and evening. I would now be astonished if either suffered from creaks and I am pledged to do the same for all of the upstairs rooms one-by-one as they are completed. Diana was upset from the cold and a fractious baby today and was also suffering from the first day of a period, which is always a trial. No time to hear the news today, but the weather was cold and breezy. I also was unable to get time for the ducks this evening and left them out to fend for themselves. To bed rather tired and weary of the work and still suffering from a slight cold and sore throat. At least my back seems to have healed, but I have been informed of an appointment with the physiotherapist next week.
