A decision to spend a few nights on our new boat and so, after Debbie tended her pony, we set off and arrived in Wroxham for some more purchases by 3pm and were then on the boat at Heronshaw by dusk. I took Daniel and Debbie to see ‘Ghostbuster II’ this evening before we retired to our bunks for the night.
We awoke this morning and made the decision to spend a few days on our new boat. Di took Debbie to the stables so that she could do her horse riding and the rest of us spent the morning getting everything ready for the boat. I typed up a letter for the Norfolk Yacht Agency which pointed out the outstanding problems and queries for the boat. By 12noon, we had set off and we stopped for lunch at The Happy Eater soon after. We were in Wroxham by 3pm, where we bought some new mooring ropes and accessories and then we settled ourselves into the Rolyat Princess by dusk.

Taking Mum to see Dad’s grave in the morning, home for a nice lunch of turkey Vol-Au-Vents and then to watch Desert Orchid, the legendary grey, overcome a huge handicap to again win the King George VI Gold Cup. Taking Mum home this evening as ghastly pictures were shown of the demise of ex-Romanian President Ceausescu and his wife
I slept very well and was a bit reluctant to wake up. Mum was even more so and did not rise until mid-morning. I took her up to the cemetery and we saw Dad’s grave and the flowers which still looked in good condition from a distance. Home for a nice lunch of turkey Vol-Au-Vents and a lazy afternoon watching the TV war film ‘A Bridge Too Far’ and also the King George VI Gold Cup where Desert Orchid, the legendary grey, overcome a huge handicap to still win by eight lengths over 3 miles.

Another wet and windy day after a very windy night but a delightful family day followed for opening presents, enjoying Christmas dinner and listening to the Queen’s speech before watching the film ‘Crocodile Dundee’ on TV. More unsettling news this evening from the Romanian army that have captured and executed the deposed Romanian leader and his wife President Nicolae and Mrs Eleanor Ceausescu for allegedly being responsible for 60,000 people deaths in the uprising. Meanwhile in Panama, deposed President Noriega has sought political asylum in the Vatican diplomatic mission
Di woke me early and we all went to the lounge to see the children open their presents. Daniel was very pleased with his Archimedes computer and spent the whole day programming and playing with it. All three children had countless presents opened in two waves, before and after lunch. Diana cooked a beautiful lunch of roast turkey, bacon, sausage, Brussels sprouts, potatoes and gravy – with Christmas pudding and cream to follow (I had two helpings of the latter and felt uncomfortably full all evening). We all listened to the Queen’s Speech before opening the second batch of presents. It was a nice appeal to the children of the Commonwealth on the subject of the environment. This evening, we watch the film ‘Crocodile Dundee’ on TV and I finished reading my navigational books with the conclusion that I was getting a grasp of the basics and at last can see what has to be done with charts and equipment.

An early start on a very windy morning to collect mum from Stanton and bring her back to Horning for Christmas. Then the 15 of us to St James’s Church for the Family Carol service before home to The Hayling View for tea.
This evening, I read my books on navigation as Mum chatted until we put the Christmas presents out and listening to the continued problems of the East of Europe
We were awake early today, as I had to go and collect Mum from Stanton. I took off in our Ford Escort at 8am and got to her place after 9am. The weather was a fine but it was a very windy morning and I had to take my time getting there. We loaded up Mums car, locked up the house, and got her into the car and we took the trip back which was swift and without incident. We then brought Mum in for the morning drinks and she enjoyed the rest of the day in Horning.
