On the hottest day so far this year, Di took 24 brownies on a coach trip to the Woburn wildlife Park and, after making a crab salad for Daniel and I, we took a drive to Huntingdon in St Neots to deliver my book mailing and sold 12 books to WHSmith. The Liverpool Everton cup final proceeds today were donated to the Hillsborough disaster appeal and China has suppressed the media and implemented martial law to control unrest and UK electricity workers have accepted a 9.2% pay offer
Another hot day – this one the warmest so far this year though it started off cool and misty. Di was off today with 24 Brownies on a coach trip to the Woburn Wildlife Park and she took Della as well as Debbie which was fine. This left me alone and I spent the first part of the morning tending the pool and birds. The water temperature has been up 75° and that makes the fish very excited and continually hungry. I supplemented their pellets with some brown bread to fill up a bit. Later, I continued the task of preparing the launch details for my book – press releases and then trade terms for the local booksellers. We made our own lunch – a crab salad for me and toast for Daniel – and then we took a drive to Huntingdon and St Neots to give Daniel a driving lesson and to deliver my mailing.

I met the manager of WHSmith in Huntingdon and obtained an order for 12 books, but they are unhappy with a discount of 30% and want 33.3%. Once home, Daniel and I watched television for a while, but I was too late to see the cup final and Liverpool beating Everton 3-2 after extra time. The proceeds of the event are being donated to the Hillsborough disaster appeal. The news today is of the Chinese civil crisis with the media being closed down and troops massing to implement the martial law decrees. Thatcher has issued a statement to withdraw any criticism (that the media had attributed to him) of Nigel Lawson, the Chancellor. The electricity union workers have accepted a pay offer of 9.2%.
