I undertook several important activities today after tending to the Hayling View chores in the absence of Pete, my gardener. This morning working with Michael and Percy planning the new Eaton’s election campaign, this afternoon working on St Neots Museum press launch copy and agreeing the results of the committee and this evening attending the aftermath of the Kimbolton School Society firework display.
Tragic news today of the death by neglect in Gloucester of a daughter whose mentally ill parent was incapable of her care and of the courts writing off the obligations of certain local authorities who had entered speculative interest rate deals. Rail and tube fares rise 10% and Bush and Gorbachev will meet on a ship off Malta soon
I did not get enough sleep again last night due to a late bedtime and had to take a couple of headache tablets this morning as a result. Being Wednesday, which was Pete’s day off, I had to tend the doves and fish myself and then returned to my desk for a meeting with Michael and Percy. We mapped out the Eaton election’s campaign for Derek Giles and this took all morning until it was time for lunch with Di, which was a salad again.

Then the afternoon working on the St Neots Museum press launch copy and, after tea, I rushed over to the St Neots Priory centre to give the results to their committee for comments. I then had the changes necessary for the final production of the press kits. I had to leave the meeting to drive over to the aftermath of the Kimbolton School Society firework display. I was to assist any car stuck in the mud car park by towing them out with my Range Rover, but there were none. Home for an earlier night’s retirement than of late which was most welcome.
Today’s news is dominated by the inquest on the death of the starved and emaciated deaf and dumb girl in Gloucester, whose mentally ill parent was incapable of her care. The courts have ruled that certain councils will not have to pay up on sky-high interest rates speculative deals that they had entered, as they were acting beyond their powers. This will cost the banks millions of lost interest. There will be 10% rises in British rail tube and rail fares, more than inflation, made necessary by lack of government financial support. There will be a summit between Bush and Gorbachev on a ship off Malta soon.
