Our first day at home getting my financial papers in initial order so as to be able to pay in cheques etc, settle bills and balance our investment accounts and then going to St Neots to implement them. I visit to Ivy Bunnage by bicycle.
The shocking news this morning was of the attempted ousting of Michael Gorbachev from the Presidency of the Soviet Union by his deputy and other hard-line members of the Soviet regime.
It was strange being back in our own double bed and I was up a couple of times in the night getting comfortable. Diana started us early for the day and we were soon up and dressed. My task was to get my financial papers in initial order so as to be able to pay in cheques etc, settle bills and balance our investment accounts. The shocking news this morning was of the attempted ousting of Michael Gorbachev from the Presidency of the Soviet Union by his deputy and other hard-line members of the Soviet regime.

Going Home from Horning to Paxton with the Range Rover packed solid with belongings and we first stopped off at the Norwich ring-road McDonalds for a take-away lunch and then at Mum’s in Stanton where we heard from Fred and Marie that something would soon have to take place for Mum to be accommodated at Redgrave. On to Paxton to deal with a literal mountain of mail and sorted out the urgent financial and telephone items for action.
A quiet night to end our holiday voyage. We slept well and had no disturbances and there was no sign of life from Daniel and his friends as they slept on the lounge floor whilst we tip-toed in to have our morning baths. It took all of the morning to pack up our things and get ready to leave. This process was interrupted by the arrival of Jack Edwards who we were delighted to see, after his recent health problems. Then I went across to discuss my Heronshaw plans with the neighbours as it transpired that the people opposite had been trying to organise opposition. At least this was one family that would not be objecting.

The culmination of our cruise with the final leg from Great Yarmouth to Horning, stopping at Stokesby to buy a fine lobster salad from the fish shop there for tea before we had lunch in the riverside pub and resumed our trip.
An evening catching up with writing and preparing for tomorrow's departure by packing and putting things away. The .news was quite appalling with kidnaps, murders and more Ulster bigotry
A good night and I awoke to see the tide running out and to listen to the busy radio traffic of Yarmouth Port on Channel 12. I got shaved and showered and then prepared the boat for leaving under the Haven and Bure Bridges; lowering the mast, aerial and canopy before we set off. I just had time for a quick bite of breakfast before the bridge opened for several other boats and I went through. There was a strong force 5/6 north-westerly wind today but we pressed on up the Bure against the falling tide until we stopped at Stokesby for lunch.

A ‘lay-day’ in Great Yarmouth after a fine breakfast at Tooks as I let the girls go to the seaside as I wrote up my Paxton Princess log, sketching the Wells entrance buoys accordingly. They took a Landau ride along the front and then rode on the pleasure beach attractions before visiting the model village and a "Ghostbusters" event. We met up at the "Arnold Palmer" Crazy Golf course and we played a nice game together before walking back along the front for the last time and having tea at McDonalds.
Another welcome day of shore leave which started quite early as I woke first and started to write up the last few days logs. I took the family off to Tooks for a fine fried breakfast which was very nice. Unlike the St Neots and other branches of Tooks, the Yarmouth one always takes great trouble and does things freshly to order and just right. Then I let the girls go off to the seaside whilst I concentrated on my log. They took a Landau ride along the front and then rode on the pleasure beach attractions before visiting the model village and a "Ghostbusters" event that cost £1.50 per go!.
