Our last day in Boston, catching up with chores, finding new eating places and visiting the Boston Museum, finding out all about the Pilgrim Fathers and much of the background that was behind the exodus of religious puritans that founded the bulk of the first American colony in Massachusetts that in turn was the origins of New England and the United States. The forecast is for south-westerly 4-5, falling to 3 later which will suit us fine.
We had intended to take the boat round to Wells today but the forecast was for westerly 4/5, 6 later and I felt that this was too much for the family and so we decided to spend the day in Boston. Diana did the laundry this morning, whilst I wrote up my journal and the girls watched a video cartoon. Daniel was getting a bit bored. When Diana returned, she had found several eating places and was well satisfied with her morning's work and so we set off to the local pub for lunch. The service was a bit slow but we had the time and the food was good and so we enjoyed it. In the afternoon, we went to the Boston Guildhall Museum and were further entertained by the portable stereo sets we were given which told the "Boston Story" over the headphones.

Lay Day in Boston, checking out the Tourist Information, the library and book shops after which Daniel returned to join us at McDonalds for tea and then we went to the cinema, at Daniel's suggestion, to watch a Hero Turtles film, which the whole family enjoyed. News back at the boat about the weather was not good for the voyage the next day.
A good night but one which was rather too warm for us. Then, after showering and having our breakfast, we went into Boston on market day and had a look round. It was very warm and stuffy again and Debbie was fretting over the wasps that were becoming common as we go into August. We first made for the tourist information centre where we got all the leaflets on the town and had our morning drinks in their catering section. Then across to the library where the girls tried to find good books to read but they found the limited selection quite boring.

From Lincoln through the "Glory Hole" and down the River Witham towards Boston. It took some five hours or so to get to Boston and then the sight of St Botulph's Church, "The Stump", came into view. The Grand Sluice lock-keeper who did not think much of our plans to go to Wells-next-the-Sea and thought that we would soon be getting north-westerlies and so we would stay a while
We slept well enough after the other boaters settled down. The moorings were on both sides of adjacent jetties and the next boat crew were singing and playing a guitar quite pleasantly and then another crew were fretting over the return of a son who had gone off drinking! This morning, Di was keen that we should make an early start and got me up at 6.00am with a cup of tea. We both went along to the showers and laundry but were baulked by a twit who was taking half an hour to shower and shave before we could get in when we found that he had made a right mess as well. It was markedly cooler today and I got quite chilled waiting outside in my pyjamas and dressing gown. Once back at the boat and dressed and shaved, I settled down to write up the ship's log until the girls were up and it was time to go once more to Littlewoods for a nice breakfast.

A lay day in Lincoln visiting the Castle and trying some fishing for bream as I heard good news of our Eaton Socon by-election where Ross McKay had won for the Liberal Democrats with a vote of over 800 compared with 100-odd for each of the Labour and Conservative candidates.
The day in Lincoln and we enjoyed the rest and recuperation after our trip. The water was hot in the boat and so we showered on board the Paxton Princess this morning and then I went to see the harbourmaster who was very friendly and helpful and took our fee of £3 per day, gave us the combination to the shower block security lock and agreed that we could connect up to the electricity. There was also a laundry that Diana could use. We took his advice and tried breakfast for 99p at the Littlewoods Department Store cafeteria before going on. This morning, we spent taking a look around Lincoln, dropping on the railway station and tourist information office and getting the lay of the place.
