A poor day with Della struggling with her school interview and exams and then being embarrassed at Daniel’s overdue library book and finally making an abortive trip to the cinema in Peterborough
It was a poor day today. It was the day for Della to go to Kimbolton Prep Department and to have tests and an interview for school admission. I was still groggy from last night, having ended up with a headache after finding the London visit quite a strain. I staggered down to breakfast with the others and then, after Debbie was off to school, Diana and I got Della ready and drove off to Kimbolton. A very cold morning and the ground frost refused to clear in the shade almost all day. We got her there all right but she had a fit of shyness and would not put an electronic pocket game down which did not create a very good impression!

Then she could not do the subtraction and cried during her maths test which was sad. We had gone to St Neots shopping whilst she was doing all this and got my passport photographs from the Woolworths Kiosk before having a cup of coffee. We had an experience at the library with Daniel's book on Software Engineering (borrowed specially from the British Library and accidentally left in Norwich over Christmas) being late back so that the Cambridgeshire Library Service were at risk of being invoiced for a new one. That led to a decision on our part to go over to Norfolk tomorrow and get it whilst doing some other necessary chores.
Then I had to go to Paxton Pits as the local District Councillor to appreciate and encourage the efforts of local volunteers who were helping the project officer to plant a row of hedges and trees around the new interpretation centre, before coming home for a rest. I sank into the lounge this afternoon and watched an exciting rugby league cup final match and for once the team that I was supporting won the cup. They had overcome their bigger and heavier opponents by skill and speed.
I waited with Daniel for Diana and the girls to return from a party and then, this evening, took Diana to the Showcase multiple-screen cinema in Peterborough. Never again. We were lost all around this spread-out car-city and then found all twelve of the screens full and so could just go to McDonalds and then come home. What a day!
