To Hills Road 6th Form College Cambridge for a LibDems software seminar and later to watch the Scotland vs Japan World Cup Rugby match on TV before attending a Little Paxton Barn Dance to raise funds for the Village Hall
I was feeling rather the worse for wear this morning as I was still full of the various courses of Chinese food, apart from the wine and lack of sleep. There was no time for recovery, however, as I was due to take some others over to Hills Road, 6th Form College, Cambridge, for a Liberal Democrat seminar on EARS (the software package). I just had time to get myself ready and eat a light breakfast before it was time to load up and set off. I first collected David Giles from Eaton Socon and then Linda Favargue from Priory and then drove into Cambridge as the rain came on.

We were quite early to arrive and so had ample time to unload and set up my computer ready for the seminar to begin. This coincided with the Eastern Region Policy Conference which was well-attended but there were few others there for the EARS session and so we had John Matthewman to ourselves and made good progress in becoming familiar with it. It keeps records on all the electors in a constituency, logging there past canvassed opinions and also keeping notes on their status as members, helpers etc and noting interest in various issues and case-work enquiries. For the first time, I had the whole St Neots District on the system and even the rest of the constituency outside Cambridge City.
I was pleased that my colleagues came as we should be able to make good use of it. Lunch there and soon on our way home, arriving back at 3.00pm and expecting Nigel to be there but he was not. At least that gave me a little time to relax and watch the Scotland vs Japan World Cup Rugby match on TV which was quite enjoyable. Despite the obvious physical superiority of the Scots, the Japanese used their skill and mobility to at least make a game of it before losing by a wide margin. Tea and then several telephone calls to colleagues over the FOCUS copy before updating this last days' journal.
This evening, I took some friends to the Little Paxton Village Hall Barn Dance for a change, but I did not really feel fit and energetic enough to enjoy it too much. We arrived at about 8.00pm and then stayed dancing until mid-night with a buffet dinner in between. I has paid for our friends’ tickets and so did not feel too bad about asking them to help with the serving of the meal and then I also helped with the organisation and was the one who thanked the helpers and band for their efforts before the end of the evening. Home quite tired with the ‘sleep of the just’ in prospect.
