The enjoyable visit of Di's family playing more Cluedo and extending the table for a nice Christmas Tea with all of the children. I finished the job of putting photographs of the building of Harnser into the album this evening.
Another good night for Sam and no disturbances so that I was better rested and relaxed today than for a long time. A mixture of dog supervision and shooting this morning, bagging a single collared dove for my trouble. I took Sam in the car out to the rubbish tip to dispose of sacks of seasonal rubbish and stopped near to some guns on the way back to give Sam experience of hearing them without problems. Lunch of turkey again and then to await this afternoon's guests. Diana's mother, father, sister and brother and family.

Sam was well-behaved all day and we set off for Redgrave for a family visit, finding Jane and her boyfriend visiting as well as Mum and Freda, Alf and Chris.
Exchanging presents and playing a game of Cluedo and then home on a dark and dingy night in time to fed and exercise Sam and to enjoy my photo album of the Harnser building process
Sam was very good again, sleeping through the night and then being quite obedient during the day. I spent some time with him this morning and tried some rifle shooting for pigeons without success. I heard a fusillade of shots from shot-guns somewhere in the Great Paxton/Offords area and thought that one of the guns must have been an eight bore judging by the depth of the boom. After lunch and attending to Sam, we set off for Redgrave and were there an hour and quarter later to find Jane and her boyfriend visiting as well as Mum and Freda, Alf and Chris. We stopped for an hour and a half, exchanging presents and then playing a game of Cluedo with Nanny which was nice.

An early but fine and peaceful start to the day as Sam behaved and the children enjoyed opening their presents. Diana cooked a fine Christmas lunch and was rewarded with special attention later.
The anti-Royal “Sun” newspaper spoiled the Queen’s Christmas speech by publishing it ahead of time.
Although Sam was very good and slept through the night without waking us up, I had slept lightly expecting to hear him at any moment. I was therefore not really full of the Christmas Spirit when I was woken before 7.00am by the girls and invited down into the lounge where the whole family gathered. The girls and Daniel had lots of presents and packages to open as usual and were absolutely thrilled with them. I had some presents that Diana had prepared too and even Di had some good ones from the children which was just as well as mine for her were late.

More congestion attempting some last minute shopping in St Neots on a very frosty but snow-free Christmas Eve, managing with Sam in the back of the car and walking him three times in the day.
Gradually getting him less excited and more cooperative on the lead as a result. He comes to heel, sits and stays to command and is also becoming calmer with visitors.
Steve Bloom arrived as I had agreed that he could borrow my Rolls Royce for some Christmas events. A Christmas Box for my gardener Bill and my Father Christmas role later.
It was 2.00am that Sam woke me up this morning, but he was soon back to sleep again so that I could return to my bed. Another very cold, foggy, and frosty day but no sign of snow such that the only "white Christmas" was going to come from the layers of unthawed frost in the shade. I took Sam out for three walks today and gradually got him less excited and more cooperative on the lead as a result. He comes to heel, sits and stays to command and is also becoming calmer with visitors.
